On January 1, 2025, YouTuber and Beast Games host MrBeast, also known as Jimmy Donaldson, shared details of his upcoming wedding with fiancée Thea Booysen in an exclusive interview with People magazine. The couple, who got engaged on Christmas Day, revealed plans for an intimate wedding with close family and friends.
They mentioned they are considering holding their wedding on an island to ensure privacy and "away from just about everybody." Booysen said,
“We’re not going to try and have a big, extravagant wedding. It’s going to be nice, but it’s certainly going to be intimate [with] close family and friends.”
The proposal, which took place at the couple’s home, was a family affair. MrBeast made sure both their families were present for the surprise. MrBeast first met Thea Booysen, a South African gamer and internet personality, in 2022 during a trip to her home country.

MrBeast revealed that he wanted the engagement to be private, contrary to what many might expect from his grand YouTube persona.
“My friends thought I would want to propose in a very public way, like some sort of spectacle at the Super Bowl or somewhere else really big like that, but I knew that I wanted it to be the opposite, to be really private and intimate,” he shared.
The proposal was planned during Christmas celebrations with both families. MrBeast added,
“I intentionally dropped a large box to make noise before presenting the real gift, with the ring inside, to her. And then I went down on a knee and proposed.”
Booysen described the moment as “perfect” and said she “of course said yes.” The couple’s love story began in 2022 when they met in South Africa through a mutual friend. They bonded over their shared passion for learning, gaming, and intellectual pursuits, forming a connection that grew over time.

“It will be the ultimate way to take some time away and enjoy things.”
Booysen recalled being surprised by how "down-to-earth" and intelligent Mr.Beast was when they first met. She admitted that she initially thought YouTubers were primarily personas but found him to be genuinely "a nice guy" without ego.
He shared that he immediately found her smart and beautiful, knowing within minutes of meeting her that he wanted the "chance to date her."
