Candiace Dillard Bassett, known for her role on The Real Housewives of Potomac, has recently become a mother. The reality TV star and her husband, Chris Bassett, welcomed their first child, son Jett Maxwell Lee Bassett, on October 3, 2024.
In an interview with People on November 13, 2024, Candiace shared her heartfelt words,
“I just have so much joy in my heart… He’s brought such joy to our lives in ways I never would have been able to describe before. It’s pure love!”
She added that throughout her pregnancy, she would often talk to her unborn child, telling him she couldn’t wait to see who he would grow up to be. Now that he’s here, she looks forward to the adventures they’ll have together, saying,
“I just look at him and envision all the adventures we’re going to have.”
Motherhood after The Real Housewives of Potomac
Candiace’s new chapter of motherhood comes not long after her departure from The Real Housewives of Potomac. Candiace stepped back from the Bravo cameras after six seasons of The Real Housewives of Potomac and announced her pregnancy shortly afterward.
Throughout her time on The Real Housewives of Potomac, Candiace was transparent about her desires and aspirations to be a mother. However, she was also vocal about her hesitations and apprehensions about the journey.
In her recent interview, she admitted that the transition to motherhood had been a journey of self-discovery.
“I hesitated and was afraid and doubted myself for so long.”
Now, after welcoming Jett, Candiace has a different perspective. She shared that she already “wants more” children, a feeling that surprised her, given her previous hesitations.
“It’s been everything and more,” she said about motherhood. “I love it.”
Candiace’s journey to motherhood was also marked by her role as a “bonus mom” to Chris’s three children from previous relationships: Owen, 22, Mateo, 14, and Naya, 10. She expressed excitement about raising her son and supporting him in his future endeavors. She said,
“I’m so ready for a lifetime of being on the sidelines, cheering him on.”
A unique name with a special meaning
Candiace also revealed the thought process behind her son’s name. She and Chris named their son Jett Maxwell Lee Bassett, with “Jett” having special significance for the couple. Candiace explained that the meaning of the name was important to her. Jett, which translates to excellence and abundance, resonated with her. She added,
“There were a lot of names I liked that had meanings I did not like, so that just automatically tossed them out. But as soon as I read the meaning of his name, I was like, ‘This is it.’”
Naming their son wasn’t an easy process. Candiace mentioned that many of her initial name suggestions were vetoed by Chris, who humorously referred to them as “nepo baby names.” However, both parents agreed on Jett, with Chris commenting,
“Jett’s a cool name, he’s going to be a cool kid. They can call him J.B.”
The inclusion of two middle names, Maxwell Lee, was another intentional choice. As Candiace put it, “I’m extra,” explaining that “Lee” comes from her father’s middle name, adding a familial touch to Jett’s full name.
New episodes of The Real Housewives of Potomac season 9 air on Sundays at 8 pm ET/PT on Bravo.
