The Challenge 40 has introduced viewers to the strongest players competing on the show. In the game, a few players have been eliminated while others strive to secure their position and remain in the competition till the very end. Two cast members, Brad Fiorenza and Emily Schromm. known for their showmance this season were among the contestants who went home.
In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly on September 25, 2024, Brad opened up about his showmance with Emily and whether the two are still on talking terms. He discussed his elimination and how Emily's decision indirectly influenced him. Brad reflected on his time on The Challenge and forming a strong bond with Emily, which made him wonder if they were more than friends.
He shared that after they both were eliminated from the show, he spoke to Emily multiple times. Brad said:
"We've spoken a few times after the show and we're great — I still enjoy her conversations the same as I did, but we're just not romantically involved anymore."
The Challenge star Brad shares that his connection with Emily "fizzled out"
During his interview, Brad explained that he was the first one to approach and pursue a romantic connection with Emily. However, Emily wanted something "casual."
The two are now friends and often talk to one another, Brad admitted that due to the "intense" format of the show, he wasn't in the right mindset to start a relationship. He continued how their romance "fizzled out" while they were competing on The Challenge:
"Obviously we're from two different places, we met on the season, we started to build this amazing rapport over a couple of weeks, so it kind of just turned into something for a second. And then it just fizzled out on the show."
Referring to how they formed a connection, Brad shared that Emily and he would be the first ones to wake up and take in the natural view while other cast members used to be asleep. He also discussed his elimination and how Emily's decision contributed to his game strategy as well.
The Challenge contestant explained that he was not in favor of volunteering for elimination himself. However, his conversation with Emily changed his perspective and led him to make the same decision as Emily's. Due to this move, both Brad and Emilky's journey on the MTV show ended too soon. He further mentioned:
"I will say this, she's probably the reason I volunteered, I was dead set on not volunteering, and then after I watched her volunteer and it backfired, at that point, I'm sitting there thinking to myself, 'This feels like manning up. And now that it feels like manning up, I have to do it.'"
The Challenge contestant continued by stating:
"That's not good gameplay. After she volunteered herself, I remember telling her that I didn't think it was a good idea."
The Challenge cast member said that he had a discussion with Emily about this as well. Emily admitted that volunteering wasn't a good move, to which Brad responded with "I told you."
