Shark Tank investor Lori Greiner is a celebrated entrepreneur who has helped several business owners turn their dreams into reality. Over the years the Queen of QVC has developed an eye for detecting winning ideas and transforming them into household names. She has mentioned several times on the ABC show that she could tell in an instant if the presented idea was a winner or loser.

After assessing countless pitches on Shark Tank, Lori has noticed some mistakes that entrepreneurs often make when pitching their ideas. She talked about three mistakes that pitchers usually make in a June 22, 2018 interview with Entrepreneur.

One of the points she mentioned was being unprepared. She explained that an owner's failure to prepare reflects their lack of commitment, work ethic, and care, which is also evident in their work ethic.

"It shows a lack of commitment and caring and is reflective of their work ethic. It also lets me know that they would probably not be successful," she said.

Shark Tank investor Lori Greiner's top pitch mistakes entrepreneurs should avoid

1) Being unprepared

Lori Greiner revealed that one of the biggest mistakes that entrepreneurs can make while pitching their ideas is not knowing everything about their product.

She shared that owners should be well prepared about their product and be ready to answer any questions related to it. Regardless of the type of question asked, she added that they should "know every single detail"

"You should know your product or business inside and out, and be prepared to answer any question about it. Whether the question involves finances, manufacturing, inventory, or processes -- you should know every single detail," she said.

2) Lacking enthusiasm and passion

Lori emphasized the importance of demonstrating enthusiasm and passion for a product during a pitch. She explained that even great ideas can "fall completely flat" when presented by entrepreneurs who lack energy and excitement.

However, the Shark Tank investor also shared that she has witnessed great entrepreneurs convincing others to "buy or invest in things that they would never have under any other circumstances, but for their passion."

For example, Lori talked about Shark Tank contestant Ryan 'Cowboy' Ehmann. She described him as one of the "funniest and most crazy" contestants she had seen mentioning that she couldn't figure out what he was selling. Lori recalled that Daymond John ended up giving him a deal for his rodeo-themed Cowboy gym and she wasn't clear.

She went on to share another memorable pitch that left a lasting impression on her: the Squirrel Zapper!

"The craziest pitch was that squirrel zapper! Michael DeSanti, an aerospace professional turned entrepreneur, created a squirrel-proof bird feeder that deters squirrels from eating bird food by delivering a harmless static shock," she shared.

3) Having an arrogant attitude

Entrepreneurs' attitude is also an important factor for Lori. She explained that if an owner is trying to convince someone to invest in them, the investor needs to not only like what the entrepreneur is asking them to invest in, but they also need to like them and believe in them.

"If entrepreneurs don't listen to questions asked during a pitch, they aren't going to hear you down the road, and they're not going to be a good partner," she continued.

Lori added that the entrepreneur should be easy to work with. She noted that it "doesn't matter how great a business idea is if the entrepreneur is going to be a problem."
