Love is Blind Mexico is a reality dating show where single people meet, fall in love, and even get engaged without ever meeting in person. The idea behind the show is to explore whether love can be beyond just physical appearance. Contestants build emotional connections in 'pods' where they can talk but not see each other.
Silvia, one of the most popular contestants this season, is a curvy model who has had her fair share of problems in her profession. Silvia has to deal with a world that doesn't always accept or praise her body type as a model because she doesn't meet the industry's strict beauty standards. This experience has made her a strong supporter of body positivity, which she carried with her on the show.
In the reunion episode that aired on August 18, she openly spoke about it. Silvia said:
"No one has the right to talk about bodies, nor beauty, nor height, nor anything of other people."
"It is very important as a woman to empower ourselves" - Silvia’s stand on body positivity in Love is Blind Mexico
During the reunion episode of Love is Blind Mexico, Silvia spoke about body positivity and talked about the problems she was having at her profession and in her relationship with Chema. Because she is a curvy model, Silvia has always had to deal with societal expectations and pressures about how she should look.
When the host asked her about what she thought about how society perceives her, she expressed:
"We are in a society, where to talk about bodies or people or physique or anything other than your own isn't right. But I think it is very important as a woman to empower ourselves and regardless of your physique, social status, height, fat."
She further continued by saying that all opinions are foreign and should not be bought; they do not belong to you. Look in the mirror, value yourself, and love yourself; that's all that matters. All the nonsense of others is meaningless.
Silvia and Chema's connection on Love is Blind Mexico
In the pods, Silvia and Chema grew close, and they got engaged even though they had never met. Their relationship seemed strong because they had deep conversations and shared values. When they finally met in real life, though, the physical world brought new problems.
Chema had mixed feelings about Silvia. He was glad to meet her, but he said things about not liking her outfit or eyelashes. These comments hinted at deeper worries about how well they matched physically.
Despite these early issues, the couple decided to continue their journey together, making it all the way to the wedding aisle, but ultimately chose not to get married.
The differences between them did get stronger over time, though. Chema told Silvia at her birthday party that she wasn't the kind of girl he would usually date, which showed that he still had doubts about her.
The couple announced their breakup in the reunion episode, where Chema admitted that he was unable to balance his professional life with time with his daughter and give time and attention to Silvia.
The reunion episode of Love is Blind Mexico is currently streaming on Netflix.
