The Voice season 26 episode 8, which premiered on October 22 on NBC, featured the second round of the battle. The coaches matched two of their team members against each other and selected a song for their competition. After the battle, the coach had to determine which performer would advance to the Knockout rounds and represent their team.
Gabrielle Zabosky and Frankie Torres from Team Gwen faced off in the episode, impressing the audience with their stunning duet. Gwen Stefani declared Zabosky the winner, but before Torres could leave, Reba quickly pressed her Steal button. Explaining her decision to take Torres onto her team, Reba said:
"I loved her tone, her stage presence; I just loved her voice, and that’s why I had to use my Steal for Frankie."
The Voice coach Reba McEntire steals Frankie Torres
Coach Gwen Stefani chose to pit Gabrielle Zabosky and Frankie Torres against each other in the Voice season 26 Battle Night 2. The coach later regretted her paring decision when she saw the rehearsal clip of the two singers perfectly matching each other.
“Wow, that was so good. I’m screwed, like, absolutely screwed. I had no idea that they would be so perfectly matched,” Gwen said.
Zabosky and Torres faced off in a presentation of Never Tear Us Apart by INXS. Torres started the song with Zabosky providing supporting vocals. The singers then passionately delivered their parts, not just to impress the judges and audience but to engage in a powerful vocal duel.
Reba McEntire commented that she loved Torres's tone and where the singer was in her register. The Voice 26 coach commented on Zabosky's performance and told the singer that she reminded her of Barbra Jean from the Reba show. Concluding her thoughts, Reba was scared that if she had the decision to choose between the two contestants, she would have picked Zabosky.
Coach Gwen Stefani had to make a seemingly impossible choice by letting one of the singers off her team. Commenting on her performance, the coach told Torres:
"Frankie, I love that you’re doing this rock thing, which is just rare these days, especially for a girl. You sounded absolutely beautiful, and it was incredible."
Coming on to Zabosky, Gwen shared that it was all about getting the singer out of her own way in the rehearsals. She told the 25-year-old she was really good and wanted her to "let loose and just do it."
While both The Voice singers impressed the coach with their parts, Gwen could only advance one of her team members to the Knockout rounds. After reflecting on the battle and the performances, Gwen announced Zabosky as the Battle winner. Explaining her decision, the coach said:
“Gabrielle really stepped it up and she’s super talented. I think the more confident she gets, we’re going to see more vocal ability. I had to go with Gabrielle."
Torres was eliminated and had to leave season 26 of The Voice. Just as she was saying her goodbyes and walking off the stage, Reba pressed her Steal button and snatched the singer into her team.
Reba explained her reasoning to Gwen, saying that she initially wanted Torres. During the battle feedback, the coach mentioned that Zabosky had a stronger performance and she would have been her choice. However, this was a strategic move, allowing Gwen to pick Zabosky and Reba to secure Torres.
“I did a little play there, because I did say Gabrielle so you’d go with Gabrielle, so I could have Frankie. Either way, I was going to Steal."
The Voice season 26 episode 9, The Battles Part 3, will premiere on October 28 on NBC.
