In Below Deck Mediterranean season 9, which premiered on June 3, 2024, the crew faced challenges like time management and harsh weather, but Captain Sandy and her team made the most of their resources. Captain Jason Chambers from Below Deck Down Under shared in a September 14, 2024 interview with US Weekly that he watched season 9 as a fan. While he enjoyed watching Captain Glenn, Captain Kerry, and Fraser Olender, it was Aesha Scott who kept him hooked on each episode.
Referring to the problems the crew faces this season whether it was in the kitchen or in the laundry, Jason chimed in saying that they made the "right adjustment" to overcome them. More specifically, Chef Jonathan's kitchen duty and the changes that were made after "one or two charters".
“One charter or two charters in, you just get up and get into it and then adjust afterwards. They made the right adjustment," he said.
Captain Jason talks about the challenges the Below Deck Mediterranean crew faced
On Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 Captain Sandy was unsure what the cause of her team members being distracted was. Aesha Scott on the other hand, was trying her best to not let the crew drama affect the experience for the guests who were staying at the yacht.
Chef Jonathan was unable to serve the dishes on time but later he began to prepare them before when they were to be served rather than staying up late at night. Jason called Jonathan a good chef who had "some low periods" but learned from his mistakes and adjusted accordingly. He continued:
"I saw in later episodes that he was prepping some meals prior to going to bed so he made the adjustments; he seems like a good chef that way. He’s had some low periods but has learned to rise up to the event.”
He further chimed on the Below Deck Mediterranean drama involving Captain Kerry when he checked everyone's cabins.
“It’s a monthly thing that has to be done. It’s a requirement from the official logbook. You have to just do a quick cabin check. The captain doesn’t have to do it but the first officer or someone has to do it,” Jason said.
Toward the end of the interview, Jason talked about how much of a responsibility it is to be a captain. As the time for filming the show is limited, they don't have "much time" to see each person progress. Hence, hiring new people and involving a better team becomes necessary at some point. He mentioned:
“We come to the boat and we don’t know the boat or the crew. We want to put that crew together and walk away with the best outcome..'”
All seasons of Below Deck Mediterranean are available to stream on Bravo as well as Peacock. The newly released Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 episode 16 has already been released on September 16.
