“Miss you so much sweetheart. I am so beyond grateful we were all together last year and got pictures.”

"Had no idea that he was in that place" - Sister Wives star Janelle Brown opens up about her son Garrison's passing

According to People, Garrison was found dead on March 5, 2024, in his Arizona home. The Flagstaff Police Department further told the outlet that their officers responded to a report of a death inside a home where they confirmed that Garrison's brother Gabriel had discovered his body.

On May 15, People obtained Garrison's autopsy report where the Coconino County Medical Examiner confirmed that he died from a gunshot wound to the head and his manner of death was ruled a suicide.

In an interview with People on September 11, 2024, Janelle Brown opened up about her son's death. She expressed that they had no idea what Garrison was struggling with something. However, she pondered that "substance abuse" might have played a role in his state of mind before his death.

The Sister Wives star further added that Garrison never expressed any kind of extreme sadness.

"We just had no idea that he was in that place... In fact, he was very funny, very upbeat. He had a career path that he was excited about. He had a life, he had friends," she continued.

Janelle further shared that she and her family members "never had any idea" that he would take his life as they didn't notice any obvious warning signs and Garrison was also in touch with his family.

The Sister Wives star recalled that towards the end of his life, her son checked in with his loved ones, adopted another cat, and was very excited about his career prospects.

"We actually were having conversations. He had all the resources that he could have needed. This was just such a shock. We just never expected this. I really actually had sort of thought like, 'Okay, maybe he's finally starting to get his momentum. It's hard in your twenties to find your path. And I was really excited, so it was such a shock", she continued.

Janelle expressed that "a lot of young men his age" suffer from mental health issues and never talk about it. She felt that people should talk more about men's mental health and that "there's no shame in getting help and seeking help."

She further shared that after Garrison's incident, she and her family members do "real check-ins" whenever they get in touch with each other.

"We're very real and we assess. Life situations come up and we're always like, 'Okay, so what about mental health?' We actually say the words and we wait to hear what's really happening, not just kind of gloss over it. I think we're definitely putting more stock in mental health in our family," the Sister Wives star added.

Sister Wives season 19 episodes air every Sunday on TLC.
