My 600-Lb Life star Dottie Perkins’ Life Update
The recent updates of My 600-Lb Life star, Dottie Perkins' life reveal that she is facing financial instability. In a Facebook post uploaded on September 12, 2024, she mentioned that her family has been denied food stamps, despite falling short of eligibility by a small margin.
She reached out to her followers for assistance to request donations via Cash App and PayPal. In her post, Dottie wrote:
“I’m so tired of struggling. What I’m going to feed Landon tonight. What are we going to eat. We can’t even keep basic staples in our house.”
Dottie added that her son Landon, who has ADHD and autism, is also struggling with her. She revealed that he has been experiencing intense food cravings, which she is unable to meet due to their limited resources.
“It absolutely breaks my heart because Landon comes to me crying that he is hungry, and we can’t feed him,” she shared.
Beyond financial woes, Dottie has also faced serious health challenges. In a Facebook post shared on September 12, 2023, she revealed that her health had significantly worsened since contracting COVID-19 in 2021. She revealed that she has lost her ability to walk and is now bedbound, suffering from distal heart failure, low blood pressure, and recurring urinary tract infections.
She explained in her second post:
“Chris [her husband] hasn’t been able to work all day, every day for quite a while for unforeseen reasons, which he has to come home and take care of me.”
Despite her struggles, she has continued to ask for prayers and support from her followers, hoping for better days ahead.
Her weight loss journey and time on My 600-Lb Life
Dottie’s weight loss journey on My 600-Lb Life was marked by difficulties. When she was 18 years old, she weighed over 300 pounds, having turned to food as a coping mechanism for a lack of affection during her childhood.
By the time she appeared on the show, her weight had climbed to 641 pounds. She was dealing with the grief of losing her son Daniel, who suffered from cerebral palsy and scoliosis.
Under Dr. Nowzaradan’s guidance, Dottie began her journey by adhering to a strict diet and showing commitment to her health goals. She qualified for bariatric surgery after losing 149 pounds, bringing her weight down to 520 pounds.
Her progress in My 600-Lb Life didn’t stop there, as she continued to work hard and eventually got her weight below 300 pounds—an achievement that made her one of Dr. Now’s most inspiring patients.
According to InTouch Weekly report, released on December 3, 2024, Dottie later accused the show’s producers of misrepresenting her weight loss progress. She alleged that they made it seem like she was gaining weight when she was actually losing it.
She also claimed she was misled about medical expense coverage, leading her to file a lawsuit against the production company. The lawsuit was ultimately dismissed in 2022.
Off-screen, Dottie married Chris Potts, adopting his last name and continuing her journey as Dottie Potts on social media. While her photos from early 2022 show her looking healthy and maintaining a stable weight, her recent health complications have made it difficult for her to sustain her lifestyle.
As of now, Dottie resides in Oxford, Mississippi, with her husband and son. However, her inability to work due to her health issues, coupled with Chris’s limited availability to work full-time, has reportedly placed pressure on their family.
My 600-Lb Life season 13 episode 5 will air on Wednesday, January 2, 2025.
