"My mom needs to go to therapy"— Love Is Blind star Marissa addresses her mother's behavior on the show

While the fans would have to wait for new episodes of Love Is Blind season 7, various singles have come a long way during the released 9 episodes of the Netflix reality show. The dating show premiered on October 2, 2024, in which 14 men and 15 women took part in the experiment to find the love of their lives.

Among these contestants was Marissa who found herself attracted to Ramses in the pods of Love Is Blind season 7. Amongst some trials and tribulations in which they butted heads over Marissa's involvement in the military, they still managed to move past their differences. They moved from the pods to the honeymoon phase and on to the real world, as they met each other's friends and family.

Ramses met Marissa's mother and her 3 children from different fathers. Moments after they exchanged pleasantries, her mother had some harsh words to say to Ramses as she criticized his looks and even remarked that the couple looked like siblings. After the release of the episodes, many fans pointed out the behavior of Marissa's mother and her hostile take on the matter.

This prompted Marissa to defend her mother in a post made on her official TikTok account. She acknowledged that a lot of people have been commenting about her mother online and wanted to address the situation. She appreciated the concerns of the fans but still expressed that some leniency should be afforded to her mother, as she was just a human being with different opinions.

She also stated that her mother was just trying to protect her as a parent, a feeling she couldn't reciprocate since she did not have kids of her own. She responded in a video on her TikTok account (@official_marissag):

"My mom, just like you all are not one-dimensional. We all are complex and we all have our own issues, our own traumas. Like, my mom needs to go to therapy. It's like a lot of other people need to go to therapy," stated Marissa.

How did Ramses and Marissa's family meeting play out on Love Is Blind season 7?

As mentioned earlier, Ramses met Marissa's mother, Vanessa on Love Is Blind season 7 episode 9, after the honeymoon phase. As soon as they greeted, Vanessa expressed that there was something off about Ramses' look and told him that his hairstyle seemed to be from the 1980s.

Marissa later introduced her siblings and explained that she and her siblings all had different fathers. As the family members and Ramses enjoyed their meal, the latter shared that he did not possess a college degree. This prompted Vanessa to raise concerns about his potential to earn and keep her daughter happy.

“I don’t think you’re a bum. She would not go for a f***ing bum. But I want to make sure you’re not relying on her law degree and her money because if a kid is produced in this relationship, you don’t want me coming up there staying with you for a while taking care of a kid,” stated Vanessa.

Soon another awkward moment came about when Vanessa brought up Ramses’ prior marriage. As he explained his thoughts on what went wrong in his previous marriage, Vanessa replied sarcastically and pointed out that she didn't need anyone to explain how a marriage worked on Love Is Blind.

Later on, in Love Is Blind, Marissa leaves the table in order to use the washroom. It gives Vanessa the opportunity to suggest to Ramses that he should sign a prenup before getting married to her daughter.

“She has worked too hard to get f***ed over and has suffered from men f***ing her over... It’s nothing against you,” said Vanessa.

Ramses revealed that he was open to the idea of a prenup which Vanessa appreciated. She expressed that he would be welcomed into the family as long as he kept Marissa happy.
