Kevin O’Leary, the renowned entrepreneur and investor from Shark Tank, recently shared his thoughts on accessible luxury watches for new collectors. In a video posted on his Instagram account, @kevinolearytv, on January 11, 2025, O’Leary expressed his appreciation for brands that prioritize the needs of novice collectors. During a conversation with watch expert Craig Karger, he said:

“I am really liking the brands that care about the new collector.”

When asked about the best watch releases under $10,000, O’Leary mentioned four standout pieces—two from Grand Seiko and two from Tudor. Highlighting the practicality and availability of these models, he remarked,

“Grand Seiko has production capacity, so it’s not only important enough to make an entry level, but they also actually have inventory you can buy. Tudor the same, because it’s great to bring out a watch for $5,000 and make four, like Seuss.”

Kevin O’Leary’s passion for watches extends beyond their technical craftsmanship. On January 4, 2025, he posted a video from Cityscape, a major real estate development conference held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he emphasized the importance of selecting the right watch for impactful networking.

“You’ve got to bring your A-game, even with your watches,”

O’Leary stated in the video that a luxury timepiece can elevate one’s image and leave a lasting impression. O’Leary showcased his understanding of timepiece significance by pairing iconic models like the Meteorite Daytona with the Moser Derby, noting,

“New York time. We’re talking Meteorite Daytona. Spectacular. Let’s bring it home with Riyadh time with a Moser Derby. Ichi wawa carumba.”

He highlighted how these watches symbolize sophistication and precision, aligning with the standards of success. Additionally, O’Leary has used his platform to discuss unique pieces like the Rolex Meteorite Daytona, a model featuring a dial crafted from extraterrestrial material.

In a YouTube video posted in November 2023, O’Leary explained that Rolex sourced meteorite fragments for the dial, making each watch one-of-a-kind. He noted that Rolex ceased model production after the meteorite material was depleted, further enhancing its rarity.

“It’s gold, it’s unique, and it connects you to the artistry of Rolex and space,” O'Leary said.

Shark Tank investor O’Leary on watch collecting

On January 8, 2025, Shark Tank investor Kevin O’Leary shared his perspective on the addictive nature of watch collecting in an interview with Fox Business, which he posted on Instagram. He explained,

“The thing about watch collecting is, it’s a horrible disease. You can’t stop.”

He added that once someone starts collecting luxury watches, it becomes an obsession that is hard to resist. O’Leary also commented on Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s involvement in watch collecting, referencing Zuckerberg’s $900,000 unique piece that appeared in a Meta video. He acknowledged its rarity, saying,

“Yes, I saw it, and it was a piece unique.”

During the interview, the Shark Tank star mentioned he was wearing a similar exclusive Daytona model featuring dual time zones. In his Instagram caption, he playfully added,

“I don’t want to boast here, but I think I got Zuck beat in the watch department.”

In his conversation with Craig Karger on January 11, 2025, Shark Tank's Kevin O'Leary reflected on Tudor’s 2025 releases, with Karger referencing the unexpected introduction of a Coke bezel design. O’Leary acknowledged the move as a subtle nod to Tudor’s sister company, Rolex, adding,

“That’s kind of not a sleight of hand, but a cool tip to their sister company.”

Shark Tank airs every Friday at 8/7c on ABC.
