Dancing with the Stars season 33 returned with a new episode on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. The segment saw the contestants and their professional dance partners take on the challenge of facing their fears on a Nightmares-themed Halloween night. A haunted character or theme served as the inspiration for each couple's choreography.
In addition to their solo acts, the stars had to compete in a dance battle, whose scores would be added to their judges' totals.
In the previous episode, Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong earned immunity from the dance-off because they received the highest cumulative scores from the judges throughout the season. However, they still had to perform their weekly dance.
Chandler and Brandon prepared a Viennese Waltz routine for Halloween Night, dancing to Denmark + Winter's Secret. Despite receiving two 10s from the judges, their performance fell short of a perfect score as Carrie Ann Inaba gave them a 9.
Dancing with the Stars fans took to X, criticizing Carrie Ann for not giving Chandler full points. They believed her performance was better than most of the others from the night and was worthy of a perfect total.
"Giving the men 10s and chandler a 9 when hers was technically better without mistakes like the other 2, Carrie Ann is absurd," a fan wrote.
"Carrie Ann gave every man a 10 and is going to rob Chandler, the best dancer on the show of her perfect score," another commented.
"Chandler got 10s from the TWO judges that matter tonight. (Idk what bs Carrie Ann is on tonight but she’s aggravating me BAD)" a netizen posted.
Many Dancing with the Stars fans called out Carrie Ann for giving others a perfect score but not Chandler.
"So you’re giving 10s out like candy, but as soon as Chandler performs you just happen to “run out”???" a user reacted.
"no, because she's been giving tens out tonight like they're f**king candy and Chandler gives one of the best dances of night and gives her a nine...and everyone else gave her a 10. carrie ann you will begin to cough in 9 days," a person commented.
"now watch carrie ann give these men a 10 but suddenly the paddle is missing when it comes to chandler," another fan wrote.
"carrie ann felt generous with the 10s up until it was time for chandler to dance. now she felt like actually judging," one user tweeted.
Meanwhile, many Dancing with the Stars fans supported the live audience's reaction to Carrie Ann's score.
"Carrie Ann is crying because of all the booing….. for hating on Chandler, even though all she did was praise the men for doing nothing. I hate to say it but it’s what she deserved," a person reacted.
"cai acting like she doesn’t deserve those boos when she’s holding chandler to such an unrealistic standard is crazy," another netizen commented.
Dancing with the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba says she expected technicality from Chandler's performance
Chandler and Brandon prepared a Viennese Waltz routine to dance to Secret by Denmark + White. Before stepping onto the stage, the Disney actress detailed the inspiration behind the song choice.
Chandler admitted that her Halloween nightmare was influenced by a "creepy doll" present at her grandmother's house. She revealed the doll would randomly move around the house whenever she visited. However, the Dancing with the Stars contestant later realized that her "brothers and cousins" were tricking her.
As for her performance, Chandler captured the serenity of the Waltz while maintaining the unsettling aura of the doll. They swiftly moved across the ballroom, impressing the judges.
While commenting on the couple's act Dancing with the Stars judge Bruno Tonioli complimented how well they likened their dance to a "haunting gothic novel." He was "spellbound" by the choreography, scoring them a 10.
Derek Hough echoed Bruno's sentiments, praising how well they executed the critical dance style. He called their act "absolute perfection," giving them a 10.
However, Carrie Ann disagreed with the others, stating the dance was good but imperfect. She explained she wanted Chandler to include more technicality into her routine. Consequently, she gave her a 9, bringing the total to 29 out of 30.
New episodes of Dancing with the Stars season 33 come out on Tuesdays at 8 pm ET only on ABC.
