Anna Delvey's lawyer, Duncan Levin, has issued a statement after The View "corrected their false and defamatory statements" about the Dancing with the Stars contestant and her "debts" on air on Monday, September 16.
On The View's Monday episode, co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin updated the September 5 discussion about Anna Delvey, aka Anna Sorokin, which saw Griffin assert that Delvey still owes people money and is still a con artist. She said they heard from Delvey's attorney, who strongly objected to their previous claims and told them that "all of Ms. Delvey's restitution has been repaid in full, and all the victims have been fully compensated."
Following The View's on-air correction, Levin shared a statement, as quoted by Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, saying:
"We are thankful that The View has corrected their false and defamatory statements about Ms. Delvey. Like so many others, Anna has made mistakes and, most importantly, she has made amends by serving both time in prison and repaying all her debts in full."
Anna Delvey's attorney further noted that the Dancing With the Stars contestant "deserves a second chance" and that she "accepts The View's apology."
The View's hosts, Griffin, Sunny Hostin, and Whoopi Goldberg previously made their opinions known about the convicted fraudster joining the ABC dance competition. Besides claiming that Delvey still owes people money, Goldberg questioned ABC's decision to let Delvey join the competition given her past.
Anna Delvey previously told The View's hosts to "get your facts straight" and demanded on-air apology
After the scathing remarks from The View's panelists on the show's September 5 episode, Anna Delvey didn't hold back in telling them to retract their inaccurate statements about her and her arrest. The Inventing Anna subject also demanded that the hosts give an "on-air correction." In a statement to Page Six on September 6, Delvey stated:
"While you're entitled to your own opinions, you should at least get your facts straight. I served my time and paid everyone back in full three-plus years ago. Looking forward to your on-air correction. Stay nasty ladies, but don't forget to vote on Sept. 17!"
Delvey is still under house arrest after being released from prison on February 21 after four years behind bars for fraud. Her story was dramatized in the docuseries Inventing Anna on Netflix, which stars Julia Garner as Delvey. She's reportedly used the earnings from the Netflix show to repay her debts.
In related news, Anna Delvey will be joining Season 33 of Dancing with the Stars, which is premiering on September 17. The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has given her permission to join DWTS, but she will continue wearing her ankle monitor throughout the competition. Delvey will be competing in the hit dancing show with DWTS pro dancer Ezra Sosa.
