The Voice released a new episode on Monday, October 21, 2024. After several weeks of Blind Auditions, coaches Reba McEntire, Gwen Stefani, Michael Bublé, and Snoop Dogg proceeded to the Battles. In this round, two contestants from the same team face off against each other, singing a song hand-picked by their mentors.
Their coach would then judge their performance and select one artist to advance to the next stage of the competition while eliminating the other. However, the others could steal the eliminated contestant, making them the newest member of their teams.
Kiara Vega and Mor Ilderton from Team Michael competed on the first night of Battles, singing Iris by Goo Goo Dolls. Despite putting his best foot forward, Mor failed to outshine Kiara, losing his spot on Michael's team. However, Gwen pressed her Steal button before he could leave the stage, scouting him for her team.
The Voice fans took to X, divided by Kiara and Mor's performance. While some praised their vocals, others were unimpressed, suggesting the song did not suit them. At the same time, many commented on Gwen's decision to steal Mor. One X user wrote:
"Sorry Michael that duet of Iris was absolutely awful."
"Kiara and Mor rule." Another fan commented.
"Nice! I love a last second steal!" A netizen tweeted.
Many fans of The Voice were unhappy with Mor and Kiara's duet, citing their lack of chemistry onstage.
"These two singers butchering Iris by Goo Goo Dolls on #TheVoice," a user reacted.
"Butchered Iris. Horrible and disgraceful," a user commented.
"Together? They were singing at each other, not with. It looked like they weren't even thinking about the other person." Another fan wrote.
On the contrary, many The Voice fans praised their performance, pleased with Gwen's last-minute steal that saved Mor.
"Wow, That was an incredible performance by kiara vega, And mor ilderton, They sounded amazing together, And it was one of the best performances of the night this week," a user tweeted.
"Kiara Vega vs Mor ilderton (shaking off the nerves) His voice is so stylized, hers clean and sonorous. His stage movements are kinda captivating, pulled me into the moment. They sounded good together, tho this kinda plodded along." Another user reacted.
"I was going to be so sad if Mor wasn't stolen!" A netizen commented.
What did the Coaches say about Kiara and Mor's duet in the latest episode of The Voice?
18-year-old Kiara and 20-year-old Mor battled on Goo Goo Dolls' 1998 classic, Iris. Michael paired the two artists because he felt they would complement each other age-wise. He chose the song Iris for them, claiming it deserved to be sung by two people as unique as them.
Kiara and Mor's duet moved The Voice coach Reba to tears. The returning champion took a moment to dab her eyes, unable to comment. Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg offered his feedback. He said:
"That was an amazing performance. The way y'all worked together on those parts sounded like you were in love with each other."
The rapper was impressed by Kiara's ability to maneuver her voice through the high and low notes. At the same time, he complimented Mor's tonal quality, saying,
"I don't even know who you sound like. You sound like you."
Finally, Reba spoke, praising Kiara's voice and her stage presence. Meanwhile, she was in awe of Mor's out-of-the-box "raspy voice."
"Mor, you're so different. You're a stylist. I like your raspy voice. I love the way you looked at the audience," she said.
Gwen chimed in, agreeing with Reba. She applauded Kiara's "stage presence and competence." While commenting on Mor's performance, The Voice coach confessed she was amazed by his "intensity onstage." Gwen called him "unique," impressed by the rasp in his voice.
Despite Reba and Gwen's support for Mor, Michael declared Kiara the Battle's winner, stating she had a "great voice" and potential to flourish in the music industry. However, before Mor could walk off the stage, Gwen pressed her Steal button.
"I just had to steal Mor...I just got this feeling like, 'I know what to do with that guy.' My favorite thing about Mor's voice is it just has a unique, raspy, undone tone. When you hear music out there, his voice feels like what's happening now in the world," Gwen said.
The Voice season 26 airs every Monday and Tuesday at 8 pm ET on NBC.
