Former Bachelorette star and attorney, Rachel Lindsay, recently revealed that she was "shocked" when she found out that her ex, Bryan Abasolo, had filed for divorce on January 2, 2024, via text message.
On June 26, the 39-year-old made the claims in the new court filings along with a screenshot of the conversation as proof. In the documents obtained by People magazine, Lindsay alleged that she and the 44-year-old chiropractor had a chat in her kitchen where he didn't mention that he had filed for divorce. She added:
"Approximately 30 minutes after he left the house, he sent me a text message that simply read 'Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I officially filed.'"
Before Rachel's recent filing, Abasolo had requested emergency spousal support and claimed that his ex should pay at least $75,000 for his legal fees.
"Wait what?" — Rachel Lindsay responds to Bryan Abasolo's text about filing for divorce
Rachel Lindsay and Bryan Abasolo tied the knot in Mexico on August 24, 2019. The pair stayed together for four years but Bryan then filed for divorce on January 2, 2024. He cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason behind this separation.
Lindsay shared her side of the story in the recent court filing, where she revealed that Bryan told her the news on the same day via text at 11:43 am. She explained that she responded by saying:
“Wait what?"
The screenshot submitted by the lawyer also showed that she then stopped sharing her location with Abasolo later that evening.
The media personality already knew that they were going to get divorced soon. However, she claimed that she was “shocked” to find out about the same through a message.
Rachel Lindsay further stated in the court filings that the couple's “prior conversations” had been “amicable” and they had reached a decision to separate in a way that “would not attract media attention.” However, the lawyer has now alleged that she tried to discuss with Bryan about settling the matter swiftly, but "he was not interested.” She added:
"He informed me in no uncertain terms that everything must go through lawyers. He has not made any effort – reasonable or not – to resolve this matter with me."
The couple does not have any children together. In Rachel Lindsay's June 26 court filings, she also talked about Abasolo's request for emergency spousal support and legal fees. She said:
"His requests for spousal support and $75,000 in professional fees are not supported by competent evidence and far exceed the actual marital lifestyle and his need."
Rachel Lindsay first gained popularity by appearing as a contestant in season 21 of ABC's The Bachelor. She then starred as the lead in The Bachelorette, for its thirteenth season. The lawyer became the first African-American to be the star in the entire Bachelor franchise.
