In a recent interview with ET on December 6, 2024, Brandon Gibbs and Julia Trubkina, the cast member of 90 Day: The Last Resort, discussed the experience of group therapy on the show, highlighting the challenges and personal growth that come with sharing intimate issues in a group setting.
The show brings couples together in a therapeutic environment to address relationship struggles, intending to foster personal and relational healing. When asked about the process of opening up during therapy, Brandon explained:
“The therapy setting also to get all that, you know just to share your issues you know, be vulnerable in that situation with groups and everything.”

Group therapy and its surprising impact
This was a new experience for Brandon and Julia. They mentioned that they had never done therapy before 90 Day: The Last Resort. So, the therapy sessions were not just traditional counseling; they included many interactive elements and challenges that would make the couples go deep into their issues.
Brandon shared that he initially anticipated a standard therapy experience but was surprised by the events during the therapy, aimed at fostering learning and self-reflection. He said:
“The therapy was very new for us...I expected a very traditional therapy, but there were a lot of fun challenges that taught us things through therapy.”
Brandon's experience in therapy also led him to confront various aspects of his personality. As his partner Julia humorously revealed in the interview, the viewers would witness “three different personalities of Brandon,” each of which presented different facets of his behavior in response to the therapeutic process.
Despite these changes, Julia was unsure of her responses to these changes, especially saying she "likes maybe two out of three" of Brandon's personalities that emerge during the sessions on 90 Day: The Last Resort.
Dynamic with other couples in group setting
One of the cores of the therapy on 90 Day: The Last Resort is the aspect of being open, especially in a group setting where couples are encouraged to share their most personal issues.
Julia admitted that such a process is hard, especially if there are other couples around. She said that getting other people's opinions, as well as those who are not close friends or family members, gives a person a new look at their problems.
"You’re listening to their opinions, they’re not our friends, they’re not our enemies, they’re just regular people who are telling their opinion,” she said.
Julia explained that this dynamic offered an opportunity for self-reflection, as couples, including Brandon and his wife Julia, were able to view their relationship through the lens of others' experiences.
“It’s good, it helps. Same like we for other couples, we say our opinion, it’s interesting to listen up,” she added.
Brandon was keen to note that although the positive aspects of group therapy were quite evident on 90 Day: The Last Resort, the process of sharing such deeply personal issues is not always easy. Such vulnerability can be difficult for many people, and Julia admitted that some couples found it difficult to engage with the process fully.
“Some couples are not even needed to be there,” she said.
