"Biggest simp" — Love After Lockup fans react to Sam's relationship with Krystal

Love After Lockup aired episode 5, Sugar Mama Drama, on Friday, December 13, 2024. In the episode, four new couples, separated from their incarcerated partners, tackled the challenges of maintaining a relationship. Among them was Sam and his wife, Krystal.

While Sam was an EMT, Krystal was a convicted felon, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Sam fell in love with Krystal after meeting her on a prison pen-pal website. He eventually moved to Texas and married her despite never spending time with her outside of prison.

Although he had never lived with Krystal, he followed everything she said, convinced she was the love of his life. He even married her knowing she had seven more years to complete before her release.

Love After Lockup fans took to X to comment on Sam and Krystal's relationship. While some were surprised by his dedicated love for the female cast member, others disapproved of their chemistry.

"Sam is vying for the title of the biggest simp in #loveafterlockup history he’s almost up there with Scott from season 1," a fan wrote.

"Sam married someone....he just met...who is in prison...for assault...who is not getting released for 7 more years..." a fan commented.

Many Love After Lockup fans disapproved of Sam's decision to marry Krystal.

While speaking to the cameras, Sam deemed himself lucky to have met someone like Krystal. He was smitten and could not imagine his life without her. However, the Love After Lockup cast member had to wait seven more years before Krystal could leave prison.

Krystal was serving a 14-year sentence at the Christina Melton Crain Unit in Gatesville, Texas. She revealed she was in an "addiction-fueled, volatile" relationship with her ex-husband before meeting Sam. One night, they got into a "really bad argument," during which Krystal assaulted him by cutting him on the forehead with a kitchen knife.

Sam met Krystal through a website after his previous marriage to his high school sweetheart fell apart. He confessed that he wanted to interact with someone in Texas without any obligations. However, he did not know he would end up falling in love with Krystal.

The Love After Lockup couple met after three months of talking. On his flight home, Sam decided to relocate to Texas to be closer to his partner.

In one of the segments of Love After Lockup episode 51, Sam told Krystal that he was excited to meet his friends over the weekend. However, Krystal was not too fond of his plan as she worried he might cheat on her after meeting other girls.

"Krystal can be a jealous little munchkin. Very much so," he said.

Although her restrictions upset him, he was prepared to do whatever the love of his life requested. While Sam did everything he could to keep Krystal happy, the female cast member struggled to trust him. Despite being married for two years, she felt their relationship was not deep enough.

"He's gotta have some secrets and I know that because I haven't been completely honest with Sam," she said.
