David Murphey from 90 Day Fiance passes away at 66 announces family

Actor David Murphey, best known for 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days, passed away at age 66. On Monday, December 18, 2024, his family shared a statement via Murphey's Instagram with the header "FROM THE FAMILY OF DAVID JAMES MURPHEY" to announce his passing. It reads:

"We are deeply saddened to announce that David Murphey, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away at home on December 11, 2024 after experiencing health issues over the last several years. He was 66 years old."

The family's announcement shared that Murphey was a veteran, a small business owner, and a software engineer. Murphey worked for H&R Block and IGT, per the Instagram post. He also worked at the Clark County Treasurer's office in Nevada but recently retired.

His family's tribute also looked back on his time in 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days, which reads:

"He was also well-known for his time as a cast member on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. His time on the show allowed him to connect with viewers, see the world, and share his experiences with his thousands of followers on Instagram."

David Murphey joined the cast of 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days in 2020 with his longtime girlfriend Lana. He reportedly met her on a Ukrainian dating website, per Page Six. He flew to Ukraine to meet her in person, but the two eventually broke up. David Murphey is survived by his cat Gamera and his two sisters.

His family closed the post with a message about David's "fierce love for cats" and how he made an effort to adopt them to give them a "good loving home." They asked those who wanted to honor David Muprhey's memory to make donations to The Animal Foundation in his name. This foundation was his choice for adopting cats in Las Vegas.

90 Day Fiance star David Murphey suffered from various health conditions over the years before his passing

As mentioned in his family's announcement of his death on Instagram on December 18, David Murphey has had health problems over the last several years. Back on March 28, 2023, Murphey shared that he was sick during an Instagram video. He said that he was in Las Vegas because it was where his medical insurance was.

He also claimed that he was "in and out of [the] hospital" for the last three months, noting that part of it was because the doctors "can't figure out what it is." He also spoke about his life, saying that it wasn't working right and that his gallbladder had to be removed, but that surgery couldn't happen before his liver started functioning properly. David Murphey also shared that his doctors thought he had acute Hepatitis, but he was tested, and "it's not that." He further said:

"I've got something going on with my pancreas too, and kidneys."

David Murphey also mentioned being on blood thinners because he had two blood clots in his lungs. Per Page Six on December 18, Murphey was diagnosed with liver cancer around a year ago and underwent 13 surgeries. He was reportedly set to have another surgery before his death.
