James and Metalia, aka Tata, finally got married in episode 18 of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 5. The couple's much-awaited wedding ceremony was performed with proper Javanese rituals.
The bride and the groom were dressed in traditional Javanese wedding attire as the host on the mic took them through the different customs that they had to perform on stage. It included bowing down to Tata's parents, feeding each other rice and vegetables, and sitting at the center of the stage.
James, who hails from the US, said it was confusing for him because he didn't know what to do at the rituals. Yet, he smiled his way through and did nothing wrong. They also had to dance after the ceremony, which James joined in enthusiastically.
Fans of 90 Day Fiancé took to X to react to the wedding:
"James' dancing is definitely awkward!!" said one fan.
"James wins the prize for “least comfortable-looking American at own wedding” (THIS season) but he was a good sport and the Javanese wedding was cool. Vow renewals are symbolic but they do mean a lot to families who couldn’t attend the wedding," another said.
"Tata looked really beautiful on her wedding day while James looked hopelessly confused," added a third fan.
"Why doesn’t Tata just explain the ceremony to James. It’s like she wants him to do something wrong do she can cry & yell at him," wrote one.
Some fans of 90 Day Fiancé pointed out the fact that James was awkward during the wedding ceremony.
"I can’t tell if James is being facetious or if he is enjoying the moment at his Javanese wedding. He is so annoying in his confessionals as well," an X user wrote.
"I can't believe James didn't research Javanese wedding so he would know what's going on," another user wrote.
Some fans of 90 Day Fiancé said that they were glad Tata's sister accepted James and their relationship.

"James and Tata's wedding was nice, I'm glad the sister finally accepted him," another commented.
James and Tata's wedding on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 6 episode 18
Tata and James were decked in traditional Javanese wedding attire for their big day. Their costume included elaborate headgear and chunky gold jewelry. The wedding was a cultural feast complete with an entertainment segment called Sintren, which had live music, dance, and food.
Explaining a ritual that took place at the wedding, James took to a confessional to say that a girl was put inside a cage made of cloth. She changed her clothes inside and emerged from it possessed by an angel's spirit, and then she danced.
The host at James and Tata's wedding started the event by saying that the guests would witness a happy and loyal family coming together. James and Tata were waiting to make an entrance into the venue, Tata was making a pose with her one hand. James said in a confessional:
"We're here at the venue and I still have no idea what's happening. I noticed Tata is making a pose with her hands and I really have no idea if that's just something she's doing or if that's just the traditional pose".
However, James said he was glad to see Tata's mom happy-crying. The bride and the groom ceremoniously bowed down to Tata's parents and asked for blessings. They then sat down on the couch on the stage and fed each other rice and vegetables James was grateful that everything had gone smoothly and that no one had gotten mad at him.
Fans of 90 Day Fiancé also appreciated how elaborately the event was captured because they got to witness a new culture.
