The first season of The Golden Bachelorette has ended, with part 2 of its finale episode— episode 9— released on November 13. The last episode was supposed to document the two remaining bachelors, Chock and Guy, meeting with Joan's family.
The episode started with Chock meeting Joan's sons and telling them how he was there to live a happy life with their mom. But before it was Guy's turn to see them, Joan decided to break up with him because she didn't want him to go through with a connection that wouldn't culminate in a relationship.
She told him that her heart belonged to Chock, and she wanted to inform him before he met her family because she cared for him. In response, Guy broke down and said that he was really hoping for Joan to pick him. Fans of The Golden Bachelorette took to X to react to their breakup.
"Guy deserves better than this. I didn't think I'd be sad for him when I first saw him, but dang. That's rough," said one fan.
"Joan showed more emotion over Pascal leaving than breaking up with Guy. Kind of cold in my opinion," another fan added.
"Poor Guy! My heart is breaking for him so much right now! I hope he doesn’t leave feeling unlovable like Joan did," a third one added.
"Guy could do better though. He’s a hot doctor. Joan is a high-maintenance emotionally unstable frigid mess. Be happy to be rid of her Guy!" another wrote.
Some fans of The Golden Bachelorette believed that Joan made the wrong decision by choosing Chock over Guy.
"Nooooo. I was rooting for you, Guy. Joan made the wrong decision I feel," an X user wrote.
"I swear, Joan’s mom wanted her to pick Guy. I wish they would have gone to Maryland so Ms. Mary could’ve assessed the situation," another X user wrote.
"I really like Guy and how genuine and kind he is. Joan would be lucky to have him as a partner, but she’s probably going to pick the other creepy guy," one commented.
"Guy's got nothing to worry about. He'll have women lining up for him! He'll be OK!" another commented.
Joan and Guy's conversation on The Golden Bachelorette finale episode 9
The Golden Bachelorette viewers didn't know of Joan's particular inclination toward Chock because when he said he loved her, she hadn't said it back. However, when she woke up the next day, she knew that out of the two, her heart was more inclined towards Chock, so she decided to end things with Guy.
"I care about you so so so so much and I know we talked about being seen, and I want you to know that I saw you at every rose ceremony. I saw you on every date," Joan said.
She told him that her heart now belonged to someone else, and she wanted to spare Guy the hassle of meeting her family when she already knew the outcome. She said she did that because she cared for him and didn't want to hurt him.
This was a bit of a shock to Guy, who broke down in tears as soon as he heard Joan reveal this. He said he was sad because he was ready to propose to her and had fallen for her.
"Losing Joan makes me feel devastated, sick to my stomach, heartbroken. I thought it was Joan. I really thought it was going to happen," he added.
