Devin Strader, known for his time on The Bachelorette, is walking back his actions after publicly sharing private messages between him and his ex, Jenn Tran. The 28-year-old reality TV star recently posted a video explaining his side of the breakup but soon deleted and re-uploaded a redacted version, apologizing for sharing sensitive details from an intimate conversation.
In a now-deleted Instagram story from September 10, Strader apologized for the leak, writing,
"I deeply am so sorry for showing sensitive information from the bottom of my heart. That was not my intention. My only intention is to show the relationship from my perspective."
He acknowledged his mistake, explaining,
"I gain nothing from that text conversation being shown. I promise you that was a mistake."
Devin Strader added that while he tried to censor all private information, he admitted, "I honestly missed this one & f--ked up.” He also recognized that his apology would only go so far, saying,
"I know there’s not words that can make this better, but I can ensure that there was no intent to show that text."
Devin Strader addresses the breakup allegations
In the video, which was 13 minutes long before being redacted, Devin Strader discussed several allegations made by Tran during the emotional After the Final Rose finale. One of these was that Strader ended their relationship in a two-minute phone call.
While he confirmed that the breakup happened via phone, he claimed he had tried to meet Tran in person to discuss the matter, but she avoided the meeting.
"She kind of forced my hand," Devin Strader explained, saying he was left with no option but to break things off over the phone. He also refuted Jenn's claim that he began to pull away immediately after they left Hawaii, where they had filmed.
Instead, he said the emotional distance began in the weeks after the breakup, as he was attempting to move on with his life.
"As hard as that is to say, I needed that for my own happiness," he shared.
The overall message of Devin Strader’s video was that their relationship was a two-way street, with both parties contributing to the issues.
"By no means am I looking to denounce Jenn in any way," he assured viewers. "All I’m trying to do here is show this was a two-way relationship, and I think we could both be held accountable."
Strader’s video came after receiving backlash from fans following The Bachelorette's emotional season finale, where Tran was seen in tears while watching their proposal on-screen. Many fans sympathized with Tran, especially after she revealed on a September 10 appearance on Kaitlyn Bristowe's Off the Vine podcast that she had attempted to reach out to Strader after the show ended.
"I tried to wish him the best," Tran said on the podcast, "but then I started getting DMs from girls and all this stuff that made me upset, so I was done."
Devin Strader addressed this in his comments, emphasizing that he wanted to move forward.
"I wish nothing more than to take accountability going forward & to move on with my life," he wrote. Strader ended the video with a direct message to Jenn: "My intentions were to never hurt you, and I’m sorry for that hurt that I’ve caused."
While the controversy continues to stir discussions online, Devin Strader has indicated his desire to put the situation behind him and move on with his life. For now, it's unclear how Jenn Tran plans to respond, but their relationship is just one of many Bachelor Nation couples whose romances ended dramatically.
