Dancing with the Stars professional dancer Jenna Johnsonly spoke up against critics who say she should stop traveling with her 19-month-old son, Rome, after he got sick.
Alongside a photo of her and Rome sightseeing in Chicago that she posted on Instagram on Thursday, August 15, the DWTS pro said that she received criticism from someone after her son's night in an ambulance. She said:
"Someone DM'd after Rome got sick and said, 'Maybe you should stop traveling with him! Poor kid'...There are sooo many thoughts and feelings I have in regards to this."
Johnson mentioned that she's always known that she would be a working mom, and traveling is often a huge part of her work. It was something that she had talked about with her husband, Val Chmerkovskiy, before they started talking about having kids.
Johnson also shared that she and Val are on the same page about the subject.
While admitting that bringing Rome along during travel is "not always the comfortable option," they always try to do it so they could both "fulfill [their] dreams and be hands-on parents."
The DWTS pro added that seeing her son experience different cultures and what each country offers and having all these experiences as a family makes her teary-eyed.
Jenna Johnson's comments came after she shared early in May that Rome was "so insanely sick" that he had to spend a night in an ambulance.

Jenna Johnson's son Rome previously had a medical emergency
Jenna Johnson's son's night in an ambulance on May 2 was because he "had some troubles getting enough oxygen" after he had a coughing attack in the middle of the night.
After the rough night, the DWTS star shared a photo of her son in bed with her and her husband.
She also shared a clip from the incident on her Instagram Stories, where the paramedics attended to Rome while he was smiling and giggling. Johnson wrote:
"This would be our son. So insanely sick but flirting with the beautiful paramedic helping him."
However, the medical emergency in May isn't the first time Johnson's son needed medical care this year. In March, the Dancing with the Stars pro shared on social media that Rome had been sick after contracting a virus.
Alongside a picture of her son cuddling up with their dog, she said that the last 24 hours have been rough after Rome struggled with a "102.6 fever and hurting tummy."
In January, the proud parents celebrated Rome's birthday. Johnson shared a carousel of pictures of the smiling one-year-old on Instagram, including his birthday photo, wearing a crown that says "one", and him smashing his birthday cake.
Both Jenna Johnson and Val Chmerkovskiy often share snippets of their life on social media, including their travels with Rome, who recently went to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.
