“Emotionally abusive”- Sister Wives fans criticize Kody for crying while bidding Meri goodbye

Episode 11 of Sister Wives season 19 was released on November 24. The episode titled, The Eleventh Hour, documented Christine and David inviting all their children and grandchildren to announce their engagement. It also saw Meri moving out of Flagstaff, and as she did so Kody and Robyn sobbed with the sorrow of losing her.

Bidding her final goodbye to her old life as Kody's wife, Meri collected her stuff and put it into a truck. Giving her a final hug, Kody cried and said it was the end of an era and that it was sad to see her go because they had something special. He also called her his favorite ex-wife and pulled her in for an embrace.

Fans of Sister Wives took to X to express their views on Kody showing emotion over Meri's departure from his house. They criticized it because they thought he didn't treat her well while she was his wife all these years and cried now that she was leaving.

"Kody crying about Meri leaving after treating her like sh*t for years.. once again, he’s emotionally abusive/ unsafe," said one fan.

"NOW he says they "had something special?" He said that he's bitter and NOW he's NOT bitter? Kody isn't emotionally stable...or could just be abusive. I'm guessing both," said another fan.

"I'm with Meri... WTF is this Kody scene?! It's the end of an era? We had something special? I'm glad I strung you along for 7 years because now I can mourn the loss? Tears?!" a third fan said.

"Robyn and Kody have a true talent of crying without producing even one tear!" another wrote.

Some fans of Sister Wives called out the contrast that Kody exhibited.

"Is Kody on drugs? He pushed Meri away every damn episode…now he’s sobbing like a 2yr old because she's moving away?! Lmao," an X user wrote.

"Kody is crashing out. Saying goodbye to his first wife that never felt appreciated or loved. His life is such an emotional rollercoaster," another X user said.

"Kody saying he had something special with Meri is wild after saying he never had anything with her seemingly 5 minutes ago. Jen is doing all she can to keep her mouth shut and I love her for it!" a fan commented.

"Kody didn’t check on Meri during COVID or accompany her to her mother’s funeral or ever call her to see if she made it to her destinations safely. But now he’s crying and sad? All while still blaming her for his being angry about their marriage? Got it," another fan commented.

What Kody said to Meri on Sister Wives season 19 episode 11

As the time came for them to leave, Kody started sobbing in front of Meri and Jen in Sister Wives season 19 episode 11, and said it was the end of an era. Meri immediately went in for a hug and told Kody how it surprised her to see him cry. He added that he wasn't going to let the sorrow take him down. He said:

"I'm looking at my life and it feels not turned upside down...It feels like we had something. We had something special".

He continued saying that he wasn't angry or bitter anymore because he was glad Meri had her stuff figured out and that they were able to still be friends. But it was still weird to be in that place. He said he loved the life he had and this was different than what they had 3 years ago. Kody said in a Sister Wives confessional that it felt like the last nail in the coffin of their dream.

Kody cried even more and said he was mourning a loss. He expressed that he was so angry with Janelle and Christine that he didn't realize that he was sad as well. Kody then apologized to Meri for the 7 past years. This made Meri take to a Sister Wives confessional to say that she didn't understand his emotions because he made it happen.
