Netflix's competition series Outlast released its last set of episodes (episodes 7 and 8) on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. With $1 million on the line, each contestant put their best foot forward, hoping to defeat their competitors and secure victory.
To champion the last stretch of the race, the players had to function as one cohesive team. Most members of Team Delta harbored solid interpersonal connections, as they depended on one another to survive the harsh Alaskan terrain. They maintained a sense of solidarity and refused to abandon any teammate in difficult times.
However, one member's loyalty fluctuated with each step forward in the race. Joey joined Team Delta after his original camp, Charlie, was exhausted. Teammates Julio and Meghan quit, unable to tolerate the harsh weather, whereas Bri switched to Team Bravo. Despite some initial resistance, Delta welcomed Joey with open arms.
Joey decided to make a "winning decision," by switching to the stronger team, Team Bravo in episode 7. However, his attempt was unsuccessful since the Bravo campers refused to accept him so close to the finish line. Outlast fans took to X to criticize the cast member's disloyalty.
"Joey didn’t deserve to win anyways…flip flopper," one fan wrote.
"I was DISGUSTED. I mean man, how dare you go and BEG, CRYING, to be accepted by these people who were already FOUR and yet they SAVED YOU and you first betrayed them then LIED IN THEIR FACE!?! If I were his wife/daughter I would be so f**king ashamed of him," another fan commented.
"Am I the only one that finds Joey absolutely insufferable?" one person commented.
Many Outlast fans criticized Joey for attempting to betray his team and lying to them about it once his plan failed.
"Joey doesn’t deserve to be on any team," one netizen tweeted.
"Joey disgust me! Literally traitor never bite the hand that feeds you. He deserves nothinggg," a user reacted.
"Joey is a snake lol," a person commented.
At the same time, netizens praised Camp Bravo for not accepting the Outlast season 2 cast member. One fan blamed Joey for Team Delta's loss.
"That's f**kin good for joey that Bravo didn't accept his lil b*tch a**," one user commented.
"LMAOOOO BRAVO REJECTED JOEY’S TRAITOR A** it’s what he deserves! I hope Delta hears about his attempt to mutiny & votes his a** off," another fan tweeted.
"Tina may have slowed them down but Joey is the reason they lost. Jonah’s boat was never going to make the journey, they needed to thrown him overboard and leave him to the whale, should have have done the same with Joey the snake," one netizen wrote.
"I believe in forgiveness" — Outlast star Joseph gives Joey a chance to redeem himself
After analyzing both sides, Joey concluded that Bravo was the "stronger team." He wanted to join them to get a "better chance" at winning the competition. As a result, he decided to row over to the Bravo campers and plead his case.
"My team is not currently aware that I'm taking the boat today or what I'm doing. If they were to learn, I think that they would respond pretty negatively," Joey said.
Despite the risk, he executed his plan because he did not know if Delta could be "the winning team." The Outlast cast member offered to be Team Bravo's "powerhouse." However, his pleas were left unheard.
Drew and Drake were set on not accepting a third member, irrespective of who it was. While speaking to the cameras, Drake admitted Joey was untrustworthy since he frequently hopped teams.
Joey attempted to make a quiet return to Team Delta but was caught by Eric, who informed the others about his suspicious activities. Faced with Eric's questions, Joey lied and said he went fishing. However, the Outlast cast member refused to believe his story, convinced he went over to pitch himself to Team Bravo.
"Joey, I really don't don't trust your words right now," Eric said.
At that point, Joey was ready to quit the show. However, things changed after he talked to Joseph. Once questioned, Joey admitted he went to Bravo on a "recon mission." Meanwhile, Joseph decided to give him the "benefit of the doubt" and listen to whatever he said, even though he knew it was not the "whole truth."
"I ain't gonna lie. I was disappointed, I was sad. But me being a man of God and trying not to judge, I just give him the benefit of the doubt. Even though I don't want to, I believe in forgiveness," Joseph stated.
The Outlast star motivated Joey to look for the "bigger purpose" instead of being "selfish." He showed faith in him and allowed him to prove himself. Brendon followed suit, uplifting Joey's mood. As a result, Joey decided not to quit and play as a member of Team Delta.
Outlast season 2 is available to stream only on Netflix.
