The previous episode of The Golden Bachelorette came with the shocking news of Chock's mom's passing, after which, the emotional suitor left the show to perform the last rites. In episode 5 of the show, released on October 16, he returned after wrapping up his responsibilities at home.
The episode also saw two suitors, i.e. Jonathan, and Mark bidding adieu to Joan and their pursuit. This put Chock among the six people who remained in contention for Joan's heart. In episode 5, Chock was dissed by the other suitors for his closeness with the lady which kept them at a distance.
When the suitors went for a game of bowling with Joan, Chock sat beside her, cornering her away with an arm on her shoulder and engaging her in conversation only the two of them could hear. Bothered, the men reacted, while Chock retaliated. Fans of The Golden Bachelorette also took to X to criticize Chock for keeping Joan from other suitors.
"CHILE, JUST PICK CHOCK AND GET OFF MY SCREEN NOW. I’M OVER IT," said one fan.
"Not Chock going for it like he’s already won the show and he is bringing his new gal around his bowling buddies," said another fan.
"Chock has been ready to smack down this whole episode and he’s low-key getting on my nerves. Not a man’s man at allllllllll," a third fan added.
"All I have to say is this: IMO, Chock is creepy, obsessive and possessive. She made a big mistake. She should have chosen Jonathan or Keith in his place...," another fan wrote.
Some fans of The Golden Bachelorette urged Chock to be more considerate:
"Okay, Chock sit down a little bit! Did not expect him to start the drama!" wrote another X user.
"Chock needs to relax or he's gonna ruin it for himself. I still think he could make it into the finale as long as he keeps it cool," another user wrote.
"Chock is full of himself and the other boys aren't liking it," a comment read.
"Alright I like Chock but I think he’s gotta chill out a bit," read another.
The Golden Bachelorette episode 5 and the drama Chock brought in
Episode 5 of The Golden Bachelorette was a difficult watch as two of the eight fan-favorite suitors were sent home. It was a sad day for Mark and Jonathan supporters as the duo bit the dust not far from the season's hometown dates.
Amidst the looming threat of eliminations, Joan and the men went on a group date to a bowling alley. Apt for a group date, Joan should've spent equal time with everyone, but the men got upset when they saw Chock holding Joan up in a corner, engaging her in conversation away from the others.
Fans saw him sitting with his arm across Joan's shoulder and almost whispering things to her. He even asked her which side of the bed she preferred to sleep in.
Their time together seemed mutual because Joan didn't object and the conversation flowed. However, it was rattling to the other suitors who valued whatever time they got with Joan.
Eventually, everyone got to spend a little one-on-one time with Joan during which they talked about their families ahead of their hometown dates next week.
New episodes of The Golden Bachelorette season 1 are released every Wednesday, at 8 pm ET, on ABC.
