"Glad you got your release" — Sister Wives fans react to Meri terminating her marriage with Kody

Season 19 of Sister Wives released its latest episode on Sunday, October 13, 2024. It saw Meri Brown announce the official and final termination of her marriage with Kody Brown. She was Kody's first wife, who divorced him to let him legally marry his fourth wife, Robyn, and adopt her three children.

Although legally divorced, Meri and Kody were spiritually married to each other according to the norms of their church. In the latest episode, Meri revealed she procured the release from the church, terminating her spiritual marriage with Kody. As a result, she was free from all forms of ties with her ex-husband.

While sharing the update, Meri revealed Kody did not participate in the separation process and refused to reply to her text messages. Nonetheless, Sister Wives fans were pleased with the outcome. While some celebrated Meri's freedom, others criticized Kody's mistreatment of his ex-wife. They took to X to express their views on the recent development.

"Meri, that's right, I'm glad you got your release from him. Now get you a lawyer and get your money. We are not listening to Kody's lies about you. We see him for who he is," a fan wrote.

Despite their fallout, Meri respectfully refused to slam her ex-husband on screen.

"Meri is a class act. She says she has no intention on becoming part of the bitter ex-wives club. Translation: She’s not going to publicly trash Kody, which. many people want her to do. She’s still a very loyal person. And she could read him for filth if she wanted," a netizen tweeted.

Many Sister Wives fans applauded Meri's decision to sever ties with Kody.

At the same time, many Sister Wives fans criticized Kody's lack of involvement in the separation process.

"Kody not responding to Meri about the release is typical. Even in the closure of this 30 year marriage he can’t be respectful. He owed her at least a response," a user tweeted.

Sister Wives star Meri cuts all ties with Kody Brown

While speaking to the cameras, Meri revealed that Kody did "everything he could" to convince her to terminate their marriage so that his hands were "clean." She believed he did so to avoid responsibility for their failed marriage in the future. His demeanor pushed Meri to proceed with the official termination through the church.

The female cast member revealed that despite informing Kody about her decision, she did not receive any response from him. As a result, the Sister Wives star followed through with the process alone.

She traveled to the church in Utah where she and Kody got married, and was granted a release, "an equivalent of a divorce." Meri confessed her conversation with the church leaders was "heartbreaking" because it was not the future she wanted when she married Kody.

"When we marry it is for eternity, like, that's the intention. So once I had that terminated or released that means it's done, like, there's no, there's no bound that keeps us together through eternity," Meri said.

Lastly, the Sister Wives star announced that Kody and she were no longer married "in any way, shape or form."
