Hannah Berner, a former Summer House cast member, claims she was fired from the Bravo reality TV show for promoting Truly Hard Seltzer, which competed with her former friends Amanda Batula and Kyle Cooke's Loverboy beverage company.
She discussed this on the BFF podcast with Dave Portnoy, Josh Richards, and Bri Chickenfry on their June 11 episode. Portnoy asked if sponsoring a rival seltzer was the reason she had to leave the show.
Berner answered:
"The truth is beef started 'cause I did an ad for Truly [Hard] Seltzer, and I didn't know that I, like, wasn't allowed to."
On Summer House season 5, Hannah Berner had a falling out with her former BFF and her husband. As viewers may have seen, their journey to launching Loverboy was featured during the season.
Hannah Berner talks about getting "fired" from Summer House
While promoting the rival drink did end her stint in the Bravo hit series, Hannah Berner insisted that it wasn't Bravo who fired and cut her time on the show, but her castmates. Fellow Summer House stars "got annoyed" about the ad and started pushing her out and that they didn't want to be "friends" with her anymore, then "it kind of snowballed," she said.
Further talking about the beef, Berner said:
"I think some of these shows become a lot [about] egos, and it's like, 'It's my show. It's my drink. You can't do that.' And there's no rules, and it just becomes fighting over egos and screen time."
In the end, it wasn't enjoyable for the TV personality to be on the show anymore. Hannah Berner joined the Summer House cast during the third season and said her goodbyes after season 5.
She noted:
"It's not fun after doing it for too many seasons."
The standup comedian informed her Summer House fans about her departure from the show in a lengthy May 2021 post on Instagram. She said she was thankful for the last three summers she spent at the summer house. At the time, the reason for her exit from Summer House was different—she wanted to focus on her comedy career.
Hannah Bernet wrote in the caption:
"Making people laugh is what brings me joy and I am so excited to announce that I will [be] spending this summer touring my standup and telling fart jokes at comedy clubs and theaters near you."
That said, getting fired from Summer House proved to be beneficial for Hannah Berger. Her Netflix special, We Ride at Dawn, dropped on streaming on Wednesday, July 9. Talking about the project, she said on the podcast that she "wouldn't have gotten the Netflix special" if she hadn't been fired from the show.
