In The Golden Bachelorette season 1 finale, which aired on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, Joan chose Chock over Guy. After Chock met her children and gifted her a heart-shaped keychain, while professing his love to her, she went to meet Guy.

Ahead of the conversation, she told the cameras they had a connection, and hearing Chock say that he loved her made her realize she had "actually found love." The cast member said that she knew where her heart was and what she needed to do.

Joan told him she knew he was supposed to meet his family the same day but added that she wanted to tell her that her "heart" belonged to someone else. The Golden Bachelorette frontrunner added that she wanted to "spare" him of that instead of meeting her family, because she cared a lot about him.

While speaking to Guy she told him that she cared about him "so much" and that she knew they had spoken about "being seen." She told The Golden Bachelorette suitor that she saw him at every rose ceremony and every date.

The two hugged as Guy cried about Joan's decision. He told her he "fell in love" with her and was "ready to let it all out." He added that he was "not expecting" her to break up with him and asked if he could change her mind.

"I love you, but I love you in a different way," Joan replied.

Before leaving, Guy spoke to the cameras and said he was ready. The Golden Bachelorette season 1 participant said he was devastated about losing Joan and sick to his stomach.

When the two came face to face while talking to Jesse Palmer in front of the live studio audience, Guy assured Joan his feelings were genuine. The Golden Bachelorette participant asked her if there was "something missing" that he didn't anticipate.

Joan assured him that he didn't do anything wrong but that it came down to a "time thing." She said it was "really, really, really" hard to say goodbye to him and noted that she hoped they could still be friends.
