"Highkey pathetic"— The Challenge fans react to Kyland's performance in finale part 1

The Challenge Battle of the Eras (season 40) aired part 1 of its season finale this week on Wednesday, January 1, 2024. The segment saw the remaining eight contestants compete in a two-part finale to win the grand prize of $400,000.

The segment started TJ informing the contestants about the karma points they had received so far in the show, but the actual points were yet to be revealed. The first checkpoint in the finale was a swimming challenge, which played Kyland at the bottom of the male ranking board.

Fans online commented on Kyland's performance and were critical of it.

"kyland highkey pathetic," one person wrote on X.

"I feel so bad for Kyland. He's not "dying" in the Final like Big Easy or Zach or Devin did. Kyland is giving 150%, but he's struggling bc he just isn't a great swimmer and it's nothing he can change in an instant. I expect him to practice in his offseason, but man, this has gotta be a sh*tty experience for him," a fan commented.

"They set Kyland up BAD in this final?!? Production you’ll pay for this 1!" a tweet read.

Fans of The Challenge season 40 felt Kyland had the "biggest disadvantage."

"All swimming the first part is kinda crazy when they know Jordan has the biggest advantage and Kyland would have the biggest disadvantage is kinda annoying," a person wrote.

"I would have quit this final a long time ago if I were Kyland; there’s no way he is catching up with any of them at this point," a fan commented.

"Everyone called Kyland a machine but what real competition did he have to face before the final. He is flopping at the puzzles which everyone praised him for plus he sucks at swimming," a tweet read.

Fans of The Challenge Battle of the Eras further said:

"This final sucks. Finals are supposed to test a variety of challenge skills. This one is all swimming. I don't agree with Bananas often, but he's correct that this was made for Jordan. And Kyland has no chance. At least the women's side is somewhat competitive," a person wrote.

"If yall weren’t so obsessed with bananas and making weird alliances with little names … you could have gotten the real threat (jordan) out. I don’t feel bad for a single one of them (other than kyland)" a fan commented.

In The Challenge Battle of the Eras finale part 1, the remaining contestants competed in swimming and puzzle tasks. As part of the first checkpoint of the finale, the contestants had to swim to shore and solve a 3D puzzle before making their way back to the boat.

Jordon led the men while Derek and Bananas placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. Kyland from Era 4 finished last and maintained the last position throughout the finale. At one point, Kyland expressed his frustration with the production team and the finale predominantly consisting of swimming challenges, and peeing on a checkpoint.

"This is how I feel about this sign. F*ck this. Another swim. See that? That's my piss. That's how I feel about this extra swim," he said.

The episode consisted of four checkpoints, one of which took place overnight. While the results of the fourth checkpoint and the Karma points are yet to be revealed, Kyland consistently placed 4th in all three checkpoints in The Challenge season 40 finale part 1.

Fans online were unhappy with the cast member's gameplay and criticized him on social media.
