RuPaul's Drag Race alum Trixie Mattel recently announced the end of her eight-year relationship with David Silver, her longtime partner who co-starred in the reality series Trixie Motel. The couple's separation, speculated by fans, was confirmed in a YouTube video posted on December 30, 2024, by Trixie Mattel.

The RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars winner shared the news in a heartfelt 31-minute YouTube video.

"It's not my favorite thing to bring up, but some of you have kind of figured it out and speculated for a while," Trixie revealed. "David and I separated quite some time ago now."

She explained that her inner circle had been aware of the split for some time and emphasized that the break-up wasn't "salacious" but rather a natural parting of ways after nearly a decade together. While Trixie Mattel avoided diving into specific reasons for the separation, she acknowledged the difficulty of sharing such personal news.

"Welcoming everybody into my personal life, I got the privilege of making shows and telling you guys a really compelling love story in my life," she said. "And it felt disappointing to not be able to make good on that. It feels like telling you guys there’s no Santa Claus."

David Silver served as an executive producer on Trixie Mattel's 2019 documentary Moving Parts and the Discovery+ series Trixie Motel. Reflecting on their creative partnership, Trixie Mattel remarked:

"Being creative together with him was especially one of the heights of my life."

She added that she would "always care about" David Silver and still values the memories they built together. The couple's relationship became more public with the debut of Trixie Motel, which documented their renovation of a $2.5 million motel in Palm Springs.

In the follow-up season, Trixie Motel: Drag Me Home, the couple tackled a Hollywood craftsman home renovation, showcasing their compatibility and shared ambition.

Throughout their relationship, Trixie maintained a boundary between her public persona and private life. In a May 2024 interview with People, she explained:

"The intimate insides of our relationship is something I never really shared. I kept it kind of private because I always sort of felt like, as a public person, my partner shouldn't have to be subjected to being a public person."

The breakup coincided with a challenging period in Trixie Mattel's life. Earlier in 2024, she took a three-month hiatus from drag to "recharge" and focus on personal well-being. In a video posted in July, she described the past year as "the most difficult time in my entire life," citing the immense pressure of balancing her career and personal life.

"The bigger the work things got, the smaller my real-life things got," she shared. "It got so bad that my social life, my family life, and my personal life broke down to frail twigs."

The hiatus allowed her to reconnect with friends and family, including trips to Alaska and Minnesota.
