Judge Mathis' wife, Linda Reese Mathis, has filed for divorce from the former after 39 years of marriage. Linda reportedly submitted the filing on Thursday, August 22, 2024, citing "irreconcilable differences." The alleged court documents also showed that the couple separated on July 17, 2024.

Linda Reese, who is 61 years old, has been married to 64-year-old Judge Greg Mathis since 1985. They share four adult children, 39-year-old Jade, 36-year-old Camara, 35-year-old Greg Jr., and 34-year-old Amir. Since all four are adults, there would be no custody battle. Linda reportedly sought spousal support but filed her case in a way that would block the court from allowing her husband to demand or obtain the same.

Judge Greg Mathis was formerly appointed as Michigan's 36th District Court judge. He is popularly known for his 24-season-long reality court show, Judge Mathis, on Syndication Network, which ran from 1999 to 2023. Mathis later starred alongside his wife and children on Mathis Family Matters (2022), which ran for one season.

Judge Mathis is the first African-American male to host a reality show for the longest time on television. In May 2022, the Hollywood Walk of Fame honored the Detroit native with a star for his courtroom show. Linda accompanied him at the ceremony and celebrated his achievement.

Judge Mathis' wife Linda Reese is a former teacher

Linda Reese Mathis married her husband in 1985 after meeting him at Eastern Michigan University and dating him for four years. Linda and her two sisters grew up in Oak Park, Michigan, and graduated from Oak Park High School. At Eastern Michigan University, she majored in Education.

In the first few years of their marriage, Linda worked as a teacher with Detroit's Board of Education and also founded the Children's Advanced Learning Center. However, once she and Judge Mathis had their four kids, she shifted her focus to them and chose to leave her job.

During the annual Mathis Family Matters event, She Social, the couple's daughter, Camara, introduced her mother, who revealed her fear of public speaking. The event was held to bring forth the stories of women from all walks of life and extend support and encouragement to one another.

A tearful Linda said at the event that she had "the biggest fear of talking in front of people" since she was a young child.

"I have the biggest fear of talking in front of people. From the time I was a young child, I just didn't like talking in front of people. You know I talk so fast and I still do, people always says, 'slow down! Don't know what you sayin'," Linda said.

As the audience listened to her with rapt attention, Linda Reese added that she had tried to embrace slowing down and pronounce things correctly. However, she noted, she is "just a speeder," jokingly adding that she accuses Judge Mathis because she can't "get a word in because he talks so much." She went on to say that slowing down while talking was part of her mission.
