The Voice released episode 16, The Playoffs Part 2, on Monday, November 25, 2024. In the episode, the five remaining artists on Team Snoop battled for a spot in the semi-finals. Snoop Dogg could advance only two singers to the next round while ending the journey of the other three. After much deliberation, Snoop eliminated Aliyah, Austyns, and Mikaela.

With their eliminations, Christina and Jeremy made it to the Top 8 of The Voice. Although many contestants could not progress, they made an impact with their performances. Among such artists were Aliyah and Austyns, who wowed the coaches with their unique renditions of iconic songs.

Aliyah was challenged to take on Whitney Houston's I Have Nothing, whereas Austyns was asked to sing Adore by Prince. Both aimed to put their best foot forward to convince their coach of their capabilities. Each of their performances earned standing ovations from all four coaches. Despite the compliments, Snoop decided to send them packing.

Many The Voice fans were displeased with Snoop's decision. They took to X to criticize him for eliminating Aliyah and Austyns, convinced they had the potential to win the competition. One user wrote on X:

"snoop not picking austyns or aliyah was a huge mistake. they were the most talented on his team and could've easily won the whole thing."
"@SnoopDogg - you picked THOSE two?!? Do you not want to win? I mean between #whitney and #prince, you could've had the show," another fan commented.
"Snoop what were you thinking? Christina over Austyns or Aliyah???" A netizen tweeted.

Many fans of The Voice were dissatisfied with Aliyah's elimination.

"How the fuck was Aliyah not picked??? Snoop is CRAZY," a user reacted.
"How do you not pick Aliyah? PICK who could win...not 'room to grow'. It's the finales, not auditions. I don't understand you!" Another user commented.
"Absurd that Aliyah didn't go on after that Whitney perfomance. It was phenomenal," another fan wrote.

Similarly, The Voice fans criticized Snoop Dogg for ending Austyns time on the show.

"I have no idea why @SnoopDogg just picked the way he did. Austins deserved Live." A user posted.
"I'm about to be through with this show. How did Snoop not pick Austyns?!" A person reacted.
"I don't know what snoop was thinking by not picking picking Austyns to go to the lives. He is insanely talented." Another netizen commented.

"That was awesome" — The Voice coach Michael Bublé praises Austyns' Playoffs performance

Austyns was excited to sing Adore by Prince, a singer he revered. Snoop Dogg gave Austyns a challenging song and asked him to sing the entire song in falsetto. Although difficult, The Voice contestant was ready to take on the challenge.

He added a unique touch by modifying the track with adlibs and growls. The coaches were wowed by how consistently Austyns was hitting the high notes. They applauded his act and gave him a standing ovation.

Coach Michael was so moved by Austyns' vocals that he wanted to press his Steal button and welcome him to his team. However, the coach had run out of steals and saves. Nonetheless, he praised the singer and said:

"That was awesome... You can make records."

Coach Gwen could not believe the ease with which he sang the whole song in falsetto. She was convinced "nobody can do that."

The coaches were equally amazed by Aliyah's performance. They applauded her for taking on a Whitney Houston song and said she did justice to it. Michael said her act felt like watching a tribute to the original artist.

Aliyah had recently lost her mother and wanted to channel those emotions in the song. Playoffs advisor Simone Biles motivated her to own "that power" and make the song hers. Coach Gwen was astounded by Aliyah's vocal range and complimented her runs. Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg claimed that he saw "greatness" in her.

Despite the positive reviews, Snoop Dogg eliminated Aliyah and Austyns from the show. While justifying his decision to advance Christina, the rapper said:

"She's a fiery female who can sing good old-fashioned country music."

The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 pm ET only on NBC.
