Teddi Mellencamp, former star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, opened up about her well-being after filing for divorce from her husband, Edwin Arroyave. In the November 5 episode of her podcast Two Ts in a Pod, co-hosted by Tamra Judge, Mellencamp shared insights on handling her new reality while prioritizing her children’s privacy.
When Judge inquired her about how she was coping with the transition, she responded, "I am doing alright." Mellencamp, 43, acknowledged the challenges of being in the public eye during a personal upheaval and explained why she chose to address the separation publicly. She referenced the inevitable attention surrounding her divorce announcement, saying:
"I just didn't want it to blow up...For anybody that's curious why I would have posted it… it’s because when your name is recognizable and you file in the court system, it becomes public."
Teddi Mellencamp speaks on post-divorce life and privacy concerns
Despite her decision to share the news on social media, Teddi Mellencamp emphasized her intention to protect her three children’s privacy.
"I am just trying my hardest to make sure that my kids' privacy is protected right now," she stated.
Mellencamp and Arroyave are parents to Slate, 12, Cruz, 10, and Dove, 4. She is requesting primary legal and physical custody while proposing visitation for Arroyave.
The divorce papers, filed on November 1, cite "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the separation, with an official date of October 20. According to the documents obtained by PEOPLE, Mellencamp seeks primary custody and requests "reasonable and frequent" visitation for Arroyave.
Additionally, Teddi Mellencamp has requested spousal support and asked that the court’s ability to award spousal support to Arroyave be terminated. Following the filing, Mellencamp released a statement on social media, expressing the gravity of her decision:
"After a great deal of care and consideration, I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce. My priority is my children and ensuring that every care is taken with their privacy and wellbeing throughout this new chapter."
Teddi Mellencamp admitted feeling conflicted as a public figure who often discusses others’ lives on reality TV. She acknowledged the delicate balance she faces, saying:
"Being somebody who recaps other people’s things, [it’s like], ‘Don’t be a hypocrite, Teddi.’ But when it does come to this and children, I think there’s just room … it’s a little bit different."
Her podcast co-host, Tamra Judge, advised listeners to avoid negative commentary about Mellencamp’s decision, highlighting the sensitivity of the situation.
Arroyave also took to Instagram stories shortly after the announcement, sharing a cryptic post on November 3 about sleep improvements. Posting a screenshot of a sleep app, he mentioned finally achieving "optimal" rest, hinting at previous struggles with sleep. "I recently spoke about just getting 3 hours of sleep a night," he captioned, "Finally got some rest!"
In another post, Edwin Arroyave shared a photo from a hot yoga session, writing, "Having good habits is what will get you through your dark days. It’s when you’re under pressure that your true character is revealed," adding to speculation about his current state post-separation.
As Teddi Mellencamp navigates the legal aspects of her divorce, she remains focused on her children and well-being, balancing her public persona with a desire to protect her family’s privacy.
