A new season of The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On premiered with episodes 1-5 on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. Episode 5 saw Caleb get into a difficult situation, when his trial marriage partner, Aria, wished to tell his original girlfriend, Mariah, that they were emotionally drawn to one another. He rejected her idea, calling their connection a friendship.

Although Caleb had acknowledged feeling emotionally connected to Aria earlier in the episode, he did not want Mariah to hear it from her. Meanwhile, Aria wondered why Caleb was in denial of their chemistry or insistent on keeping their dynamic under wraps.

Later in the episode, Aria spoke with Mariah and detailed her connection with Caleb. In contrast, Caleb assured Scotty, Aria's original partner, that they were nothing beyond friends.

The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On fans took to X to comment on Caleb's decision to call their relationship a friendship. While many criticized him for not acknowledging his feelings, others were surprised by Caleb's change of heart.

"What is Caleb saying????? I thought you and Aria falling in love slowly like friends turn lovers in an High School, coming of age movie and you ain’t feeling a connection???? I feel so betrayed," a fan wrote.
"Caleb is sketchy. You and Aria are just friends????" another fan commented.
"Love Arias and Caleb’s connection but it’s ashame Caleb is denying it," a netizen tweeted.

Many fans of The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On criticized Caleb for not acknowledging his emotional connection with Aria.

"Idk I don’t like how Caleb isn’t being honest about the connection he’s built with Aria I don’t buy that it’s just a friendship," a user reacted.
"Caleb is SICK “it’s just a friendship” he was love bombing my sister," a person commented.
"Andddd Caleb if you’re so loyal to Mariah why you trying to build a connection with Aria and expressing all these feelings," another fan wrote.
"Wait wait is Caleb lying to himself? Or is he being for real? Because it seems like he likes Aria a lot and doesn't want to acknowledge it," one user posted.

Other fans of The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On expressed a similar sentiment.

"It’s still sketchy. Why lie? Mariah knew what she was getting herself into by coming so she obviously expected him to have some kind of emotional connection with someone. The lie was unnecessary," a person reacted.
"spoke to soon… either caleb is just playing in aria’s face or he really only sees a friendship with her, but something not adding up," another netizen commented.

"I probably wouldn't say that" — The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On star Caleb refuses to acknowledge his emotional bond with Aria

In one episode segment, Aria sat with Caleb to discuss what to tell Mariah about their relationship. Aria insisted on being honest with her and telling her about their emotional connection so she would not feel blindsided later. However, Caleb was not too pleased with the idea.

"I probably wouldn't say that. I probably wouldn't go with that," he said.

Earlier in the episode, The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On star confessed that he felt confused because he had not anticipated developing such a deep connection with someone other than his partner, Mariah. However, he did not want his feelings to make either of the women feel disrespected.

Caleb wanted to be the one to tell Mariah about his genuine feelings. He worried that hearing certain things from Aria would affect Mariah since she was navigating the experience alone after Micah's exit.

"I don't know if he feels guilt, or what he's going through, but I just don't think he's being honest with himself or Mariah," Aria said.

Later, at the girls' get-together, Aria pulled Mariah aside for a one-on-one conversation to narrate her experience with Caleb. The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On star confessed that Caleb had added "some confusion" to her relationship with Scotty.

She credited him for making her laugh like never before and allowing her to feel vulnerable and heard. Hearing Aria detail their bond, Mariah wondered if Caleb had developed a connection superior to what they shared.

Meanwhile, at the men's gathering, when asked about his relationship with Aria, Caleb mentioned that it was only a friendship. When Scotty became suspicious, Caleb reassured him that he had no intention of pursuing Aria romantically.

"We're not here to make friends. It just seemed very contrived," Scotty said.

Nevertheless, Caleb continued to refer to his relationship with Aria as a friendship.
