Selling The City debuted on Netflix on Friday, January 3, 2025. It gave a glimpse into the personal and professional lives of acclaimed agency Douglas Elliman's renowned agents, who tried to close deals in New York City's luxury housing market. The competition often took a toll on the brokers as shown in episode one, where Jade locked horns with Eleanora over a commission disagreement.
Jade had invited Eleanora, Justin, Steve, and Taylor for lunch to show them the restaurant at the 53 West 53 building that she represented. When all her guests had arrived, Jade revealed that Douglas Elliman was offering a 5% commission on the residences sold above the 49th floor in the building and allowing agents to keep all of it.
While the offer excited many, it failed to impress Eleanora. She refused to let commission dictate which places she would show to her clients. Eleanora stated she would rather take her clients to apartments best-suited for them than focus on places with a higher commission.
Eleanora's disapproval did not sit well with Jade, who said:
"She's so worried about how she looks because nobody in the entire industry likes you."
Jade called Eleanora a "b**ch," vowing to retaliate if she continued clashing with her. She also claimed Eleanora was putting on an act to look like a good agent. Selling The City fans were unimpressed by Jade's comments. They took to X to criticize Jade for coming at Eleanora, despite being her best friend.
"Jade causing ALL of her issues with her bestie and wondering why they arent cool is insanity," a fan wrote.
"Jade is already calling her “best friend” a b**ch ? Damn only after episode ?" another fan commented.
"The fact Jade is obviously jealous of Eleanora is wild!" a netizen tweeted.
Many Selling The City fans disapproved of Jade's behavior toward Eleanora.
"Jade switched up on her “best friend” in the 1st episode already?? Damn," a user reacted.
"Jade is one of those people you need to watch when they’re around you. Always competing! not really Eleanora’s friend," a person commented.
"i didn't like jade from episode 1. she fully comes across as a mean girl opportunistic c*nt who will back stab you," another fan wrote.
"Jade is a slithering snake in the grass," one user posted.
Other Selling The City fans expressed a similar sentiment.
"I love Eleanora she is a f**kin boss b. Jade is the type of girl that is in competition with her friends. Sucks because she is so beautiful and talented," a person reacted.
"In the dictionary: “who needs enemies with friends like these” and there is a picture of Jade," another netizen commented.
Selling The City: Eleanora asks Jade not to look down on her work
The luncheon in Episode 1 of Selling The City turned awkward after Eleanora expressed her views regarding the commission. Soon after Steve left the meeting, Jade asked Eleanora why she was in a "bad mood" and being "nasty" toward her.
"I'm fine," Eleanora answered.
Jade called Eleanora "miserable" after she left the gathering without saying a word. She further criticized Eleanora for giving Taylor "the face" while she tried to build a rapport with her.
"She does not own you. She does not own any of the girls," Jade said to Taylor.
The Selling The City star called Eleanora out for allegedly lying about having "100 million dollar listings." Jade added that if Eleanora continued to lock horns with her, she would not hesitate to have her "head on a plate."Later in Episode 5 of Selling The City, Eleanora criticized Jade for calling her listings "fake." She got emotional explaining how hard it was to close those deals.
While recalling the past, Eleanora revealed she had to give up her social identity during the first ten years of being in business and work endlessly to survive. With that said, she hoped Jade would understand her struggle and not demean her work.
