Season 26 of The Voice released its latest episode on Monday, November 4, 2024. It was the fifth and final night of the Battles before the singers headed into the Knockouts round scheduled to premiere the coming week. During night 5 of the Battles, coach Michael Bublé paired Cameron Wright with Cassidy Lee and had them sing a cover of Mariah Carey's Hero.

The singers went head-to-head, hoping to impress their mentor and advance to the next stage of the competition. While Michael could only pick one as the Battle's winner, the other coaches could press their Steal button and welcome the competing singer to their team.

Michael ultimately announced Cameron as the winner, ending Cassidy's journey on the singing reality show. However, before Cassidy could leave, returning champion coach Reba McEntire used her Steal and welcomed Cassidy to her team.

The Voice fans took to X to comment on Cameron and Cassidy's duet. While many praised the singers' vocals, others applauded Reba for keeping Cassidy in the running. Some netizens believed both artists deserved to go to the Knockouts.

"Boy what an intense battle between Cassidy and Cameron. These two deserve to go on to the Knockouts. I guarantee there will be a steal," a fan wrote.
"After cameron and cassidy's battles performance (and possibly the LAST battle of the season), isn't it obivous? they deserve to both go through the knockouts together... so what else is there to say," another fan commented.
"Wow, That was an incredible performance by cameron wright, And Cassidy lee, They sounded amazing together, And it was one of the best performances of the night this week," a netizen tweeted.

While some fans of The Voice claimed they sang the track in their distinct ways, others felt Cassidy outperformed Cameron.

"Cassidy Lee vs Cameron Wright high risk, high reward. They both tapped into the emotion and sang the song in their own way. Cam telling the story. Cass with a comforting tone. Cam bringing the drama. This felt & sounded great. Had me holding my breath," a user reacted.
"Cassidy wins that one She sang and sounded great. Cameron sang a bit but mostly engaged in vocal theatrics," a person commented.
"Cameron needs a gear that allows him to mellow out on a song like Hero. I liked Cassidy in this battle tbh," another fan wrote.

At the same time, other fans of The Voice were glad to see Cassidy get stolen.

"Nice call Reba, Cassidy deserves to stay!" one user posted.
"I am so beyond proud of Cassidy Lee ! She sang her heart out on that song! So much so that Reba stole her! Remember Reba is a winner. She makes winners on the Voice! I am doing everything I can to keep it together. Onward and upward Cassidy Barden !" a person reacted.

"I would choose Cassidy" — The Voice coach Reba McEntire praises the contestant's singing

Michael chose Hero by Mariah Carey for Cassidy and Cameron because he wanted them to "be the hero" of their own stories and showcase their journeys through the song. Cassidy drew on personal experience for the Battle and brought up her father's passing in 2017 from liver cancer. She confessed her mother had "always been the calm in the storm" and helped her become her "own hero" after her father's demise.

Meanwhile, Cameron drew on the struggles of growing up Black and queer. He stated that the song helped him flaunt his "bold" personality and made him realize that he did not need to "conform to anyone's idea of normativity."

Their performance captivated the audience and the coaches. The Voice coach Snoop Dogg refrained from picking a winner but confessed he was on the verge of tears, moved by their emotional Battle. The rapper complimented Cameron's ability to let the song "grow as opposed to starting off so big" and praised Cassidy for perfectly pulling off the big notes.

Reba was mesmerized by the singers' vocal skills. She said:

"Cameron, you're a powerhouse. You're very active on the stage, very active vocally. And then Cassidy was like a hug. It felt safe to me, it felt comforting. I would choose Cassidy."

The Voice coach Gwen Stefani chimed in on their performance and commended Cassidy for championing such a "challenging" song. Cassidy's ability to present a "different take" on the song impressed the coach. She was equally blown away by Cameron's powerful voice, confessing she was taken aback by his "superpower, crazy" notes. Consequently, she chose Cameron as the Battle's winner.

After considering all reviews, Michael declared Cameron the champion. However, Reba stole Cassidy and kept her journey on The Voice alive. Reba explained that she was looking for someone who could touch her heart, impress her, and hold her own, and she found those qualities in Cassidy.

The Voice will return with another episode on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 8 pm ET only on NBC.
