Love is Blind: Mexico premiered on Netflix on August 1, 2024. It gathered eligible singles from various walks of life and granted them the opportunity to find love. Five couples got engaged with hopes of getting married. The show is set to return with new episodes on August 15, disclosing which couples make it down the aisle and which get cold feet.
While the wedding drama is yet to unfold, viewers are reminiscent of the feuds that occurred early in the show.
Rocio was one contestant who got entangled in a feud with Irais in episode 1 of Love is Blind: Mexico. It all started when both of them developed feelings for Fernando. However, Rocio's connection with him was jeopardized when Irais announced she was getting married after one of her dates. It led Rocio to believe Fernando had proposed when he had not.
In an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda, Rocio opened up about her journey on Love is Blind: Mexico, recalling her fallout with Irais, and what it felt like to be a part of the experiment.
When asked if her tiff with Irais was solely because of a misunderstanding, Rocio disagreed. Although Irais clarified that her comment meant something else, the Love is Blind: Mexico star believed Irais purposely announced her marriage to sabotage her connection. Speaking about it, Rocio said:
"I think Irais is a mean person. So, I don't think it was just a misunderstanding, you know. I think there's something more. I read comments about her and I read that she did the same to another girl at her work. I have doubts, I don't think it's just a misunderstanding, you know. I think she's mean, yes."
Love is Blind: Mexico star Rocio says Irais is "very manipulative"
Q. How did you decide to be a part of Love is Blind: Mexico?
Rocio: Well, I was single, I'm still single, and my sister told me about the show, the casting, and I was kind of looking for a boyfriend, a relationship. It's one of my goals to get married, to have my own family, a husband, the kids, the dog, everything, like a fairytale.
So, my sister saw the casting and she told me, 'Hey, you should apply for the casting, and maybe it's for you. Maybe you can find someone,' and that's why I decided to be a part of the show.
Q. What were your expectations from Love is Blind: Mexico?
Rocio: Yes, well, in my mind, I had this idea of finding the love of my life, you know, and to get married. Yes, I thought that maybe I can find the love of my life there. You know, I'm very romantic. That was my expectation.
Q. How does it feel to talk to someone without being able to see them?
Rocio: Well, for me, it was perfect because you don't see each other. So, I was feeling very comfortable, opening [up] my heart, talking about everything. [I was] being myself all the time because I was alone in the pods and just heard the voice. So, it was perfect because you don't see the reactions of the other person, like, the face or the body movements.
Q. Both you and Irais bonded with Fernando early in the show. What went through your head when Irais said she was getting married?
Rocio: When Irais told me, 'I'm getting married,' my mind was like, Fernando asked her to get married or maybe, he gave her the ring, or maybe they agreed that they were going to get married. So, that's why I asked Fernando, 'Are you going to get married?' One of those three things went through my mind.
Q. Watching the show back, what do you think about Fernando's comments about you?
Rocio: Well, when I saw the comments of Fernando about me, I thought that he was rude. But then, he apologized after the show came out. Fernando is a good person. He's a gentleman, but maybe he said that just because of Irais, because of all the problems, because of the misunderstanding. I know him, he's a gentleman.
Irais is very manipulative. [She] manipulates everything and everyone on the show. So, I think that's what happened.
Q. Do you think you were portrayed fairly on screen? Was there anything that was not showcased in the final edit?
Rocio: No, no, everything was real, the truth. Everything was true. I'm just like that. I'm [for] peace and love. I don't like to get involved in problems. So, I'm [for] peace and love, and I don't like to have problems with anyone.
Q. The ladies seemed to believe Irais' side of the story. Did you feel sidelined?
Rocio: Yes. Irais is very manipulative. She manipulates everyone on the show. She told her version about the situation and the girls took [her] side. Obviously, it wasn't my side. I didn't tell anyone about the problem because I was respecting Irais, Fernando, and of course, me.
It was not a problem of the other people, it was only Irais, Fernando, and me situation. So, I was thinking why am I going to talk about this [with everyone]? It's not their problem, it's only my, Irais and Fernando's problem. It wasn't correct to talk about it, but Irais was gossiping and the girls took Irais' side.
When I wanted to tell my version of the story, they didn't want to listen to me. They were like, "Yes, I don't care, blah, blah, blah," and I was like, "Okay, I'm not gonna insist."
Q. Now it's Irais and Rene. Did you expect to see them together, after everything that happened with Fernando?
Rocio: I think Rene was the second option of Irais and she really wanted to be with Fernando. When she opened her heart to Fernando, and he said that he didn't want to be with her, she was like, 'Okay, my option number two, I'm going with Rene.' I think that happened, but I don't think that's a real connection.
Q. Who do you think has the weakest romantic connection on Love is Blind: Mexico?
Rocio: Irais and Rene. Of course. When she goes and meets Rene's family, they were kind of rejecting her, so maybe because of that. [Also] because Rene was the second option of Irais. For me, [they're] the weakest connection.
Maybe Silvia and Chema. They are like friends, they like having fun. I just can't see, it's difficult for me to picture them together as wife and husband. It's difficult for me to imagine them together. But, anything can happen.
Q. Which couples do you think might get married on Love is Blind: Mexico?
Rocio: Fernando and Karen, my number one, because he's a gentleman. He really wants to get married, have a family, and Karen, she's like, so sweet, she's very, very sweet... I think they're meant to be together. That's why I think they're going to be together. I think and I wish they say 'yes' at the end.
[From] the rest, maybe Gerardo and Fernanda. Gerardo is also sweet, a good person, like the man of the house for me. He's from Monterrey, so, in Monterrey, they have different habits, different thinking. So, I think Gerardo and Fernanda, maybe, and Francesca and Willy maybe.
Q. If you could describe your Love is Blind: Mexico experience in a few words, how would you describe it?
Rocio: A new experience for me. I never thought that I would go on a TV show for love. It's the craziest thing I've done for love. The craziest thing. Yes, crazy, crazy. This is the craziest thing I've done for love. That's how I would describe this experience.
Q. Can we expect to see you in any other show in the future? Are you currently working on anything?
Rocio: Maybe. I don't know. Yes, why not? I'm open to everything right now. So yeah, if an opportunity comes out, of course, I'm all in.
Right now, I'm on vacation enjoying being by myself, exercising. I met someone in the show, but we didn't go to Tulum, we didn't go to the apartments. He gave me the ring and all this stuff, but we couldn't continue together and that was difficult for me and I had an episode of stress, depression, and anxiety. So, now I'm recovering from it. I'm 80% okay right now.
Love is Blind: Mexico will return to Netflix with episodes 9-10 on August 15, 2024.
