The Real Housewives of Potomac season 9 hit the screens this week on Sunday, October 6, 2024. The premiere episode, titled, A Crash Course in Deflection, saw several RHOP cast members return to the show, including Mia Thornton.
In episode 1, Mia and her ex-husband, Gorgon spoke about their relationship and their children's relationship with Inc., Mia's current boyfriend. The cast member told Gordon that she didn't want their son, Jeremiah, to get haircuts with Inc., and assured Godron her boyfriend didn't want to replace him.
However, Mia informed Gordon that Inc. wanted a paternity test to confirm who Jeremiah's biological father was. During the season 8 reunion, Mia revealed that she did Intrauterine insemination (IUI) and that there was an overlap between her relationship with Gordon and Inc., which meant there was a possibility that Gordon might not be Jeremiah's biological father.
Fans reacted to the conversation online and were critical of Mia Thornton bringing up the paternity test in front of the cameras. One person wrote on X:
"Mia making one of her storylines her son’s paternity is just so wrong. Exposing a child to something so potentially traumatic in a public way is going to leave a scar that won’t go away even when the cameras are gone. It’s giving narcissist."
"I appreciate Mia being open about her life and having authenticity. However, there should be limits because this paternity test drama is distasteful. This is something that'll change your family forever, I don't wanna see that play out," a fan commented.
"Mia…. you’re not protecting your kids. this is the THIRD time you’ve discussed your son paternity on camera, opening up him and your family to public scrutiny," a tweet read.
Fans of The Real Housewives of Potomac felt Mia was using the paternity test as a storyline:
"I just feel like arguing about the paternity of Jeremiah on camera is not beneficial. In fact, it could be damaging. After Mia said he was Gordon’s at the reunion, that should’ve been the end of it on camera. If they want to do the paternity test, then do it off camera," a person wrote.
"Lawd have mercy Mia! Do you have nothing else to talk about? Why in the hell would you sit on national tv and talk about your son’s paternity? He’s an innocent child! He’s old enough that he could be bullied in school over this. Is it worth it?" a fan commented.
"A child’s paternity should NOT be a storyline Full stop It would be a disgusting display of selfishness on the part of Mia," a tweet read.
The Real Housewives of Potomac season 9 fans further said:
"I hate the way Mia is using her son for a storyline. Like does anybody not at all consider the kids before outing their business?" a person wrote.
"Mia up here lying about this baby and wanting a paternity test. #RHOP He is going to come across it because you keep talking about it! And Gordon is right you and Ink should leave it alone," a fan commented.

Gordon told The Real Housewives of Potomac cast member he didn't have anything to "finish." He explained that if he got the test, it would mean that he had doubts about being Jeremiah's father. He asked Mia if she was concerned that Gordon might not be Jeremiah's biological father and the Bravo celebrity said there was "always" a chance.
Mia told the cameras that when her son grew up, he might come across footage of The Real Housewives of Potomac and conversations about his parents. She said she didn't want him to "question it" later in life.
"Inc. is trying to give you time, but legally he can go through the court," Mia said.
