Survivor returned with a brand-new season on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. With the opportunity to win $1 million, 18 castaways competed against one another to emerge victorious. Divided into three tribes of six, each strived to win the opening challenges, hoping to avoid a spot in the tribal council.
While the Lavo and Tuku tribes successfully evaded elimination by winning the immunity challenge, the Gata tribe found themselves in a vulnerable position after losing due to their lack of proper communication. With the impending elimination, they had to decide who to "boot" from their tribe.
Andy Rueda was their first choice. His emotional meltdown and suspicious behavior made them question his loyalty. They wished to use Jon, his ally's name, to convey their decision. However, Jon disagreed with their plan and approached Andy to discuss a different route to ensure their safety.
Together they plotted to target Anika, drawing attention to her alleged incompetence. In a major turn of events, Jon was the only person who voted against Anika, while the rest, including Andy, voted against Jon, leading to his elimination. Survivor fans took to X to comment on the blindside and Jon's failed attempt to evict Anika.
"come for Anika and it’s gonna cost ya," a fan wrote.
"Jon who voted out Anika became the first boot. her mist is real," another fan commented.
"anika you have earned my stan card," one netizen tweeted.
Survivor Season 47 fans reacted to the hilarity of the situation while criticizing Jon for trying to take down Anika.
"john lovett tried to come for anika and immediately got hit by karma," a user reacted.
"Okay wait Andy icon??? You come for Anika, you get sent home," one person commented.
"I’m crying Anika’s karma came SWIFTLY for Jon," one fan wrote.
Many Survivor fans claimed Jon deserved the outcome solely because he tried to target the Gata tribe's leader, Anika.
"Sorry Jon but you GATA go, don’t vote Anika or it’s gone COST YA," one user tweeted.
"Andy tries to drag Anika's name under the mud, but this diva won't be gone anytime soon," another person wrote.
"Jon first boot, Anika safe, expectations succeeded, hello S47!!!" a netizen commented.
Anike becomes the Gata tribe's leader in Survivor Season 47 Episode 1
Anika Dhar, a 26-year-old marketing manager from Los Angeles, California, participated in the 47th season of Survivor, convinced she had the necessary skills to champion the competition show. She admitted she was a calculated person, who preferred updating her gameplay based on how things unfolded.
The Survivor cast member believed she could strategize and escape demanding situations. Anika participated in the competition series with the given skillset, hoping to walk away with the winner's title.
Anika alongside Rachel, Sam, Sierra, Jon, and Andy, was in the Gata tribe. They had a strong start in the first obstacle course but soon fell behind as Andy and Sierra failed to maintain their lead. Despite the slip-up, Anika and Rachel turned the game around and secured the win for their tribe. After they reached their camp, Anika emerged as the team leader, despite not wanting to become one.
Survivor star Andy sought a medical examination since he felt overheated during the immunity challenge. As he laid aside, his team failed to win the immunity challenge. Worried his performance would lead to his elimination, Andy confessed he was ready to betray his ally, Jon, to ensure his safety in the game.
The confession surprised Anika who saw it as a "huge concern." Consequently, the Gata members decided to evict Andy and use Jon's name to convey the news. However, their plan worried Jon, who approached Andy to talk about targeting Anika. Together they agreed to convince the others to throw her under the bus.
Sam overheard the conversation, and conveyed the news to the ladies, who decided to evict Jon since he could be "dangerous." Despite Andy's behavior, they agreed to keep him because his physical strength could help them win challenges. Consequently, at the tribal council, everyone including Andy, voted against Jon, leading to his elimination.
Since Andy blindsided Jon, the latter's vote became the sole vote against Anika.
Survivor Season 47 airs every Wednesday at 8 pm ET only on CBS.
