“It was my time to go”- The Great British Bake Off season 15 contestant Mike discusses his elimination

The Great British Bake Off season 15, a cooking competition series that challenges all participants to multitask and prove their capabilities premiered on September 24, 2024. The newly released episode 4 gave participants the chance to impress the judges by making caramel biscuits and mousse cakes.

Towards the end of the episode, the results were revealed and it was disclosed that 29-year-old Wiltshire resident Mike was eliminated. As per his Channel 4 bio, Mike introduced himself as a baker who uses high-quality local ingredients while baking.

A few of his achievements consist of being one of the shortlisted participants for the Young Farmer of the Year at the 2024 National Arable and Grassland Awards, as well as being an ambassador for the National Farmers Union in 2022. While exiting the show, The Great British Bake Off season 15 contestant shared:

"I feel it was my time to go. I am just this little farmer who does baking in the kitchen."

The Great British Bake Off season 15 episode 4 titled Caramel Week was released exclusively on Channel 4 on October 15, 2024. The episode synopsis reads as the following:

"It is Caramel Week and the bakers make caramel biscuits and turn up the heat with showstopping mousse cakes. Who gets a taste of sweet success, and whose mousse cuts them loose?"

Before exiting the show, Mike described his time on The Great British Bake Off season 15 as "breathtaking." Mike shared that he will miss all his fellow contestants who were on this journey alongside him.

Talking about the skills he developed through practice each week, the eliminated contestant expressed gratitude despite feeling "disappointment" regarding his elimination. He told Channel 4 on October 16:

"I feel the quality of what everyone else is doing is just breath-taking. And yes, I am going to miss everyone. That's why I am sad (cries). One thing my mum said to me was, 'Don't cry'."

The Great British Bake Off season 15 participant stated that he understood and learned more about his capabilities which was one of the "surprising" elements in the competition for him.

Now that his journey on the show has concluded, the 29-year-old farm manager is looking forward to opening his own cafe and baking his wedding cake someday. He also plans on opening a farm shop alongside the cafe.

While sharing his future ventures, Mike mentioned:

"I have also learned so much more about what I am capable of and what I can achieve - I have really surprised myself. We're planning to include an in-house bakery, so I am very excited to get on developing and perfecting ideas and recipes for all the sweet and savoury treats we want to serve."

The latest episodes of The Great British Bake Off season 15 are released on Channel 4 and on Netflix, in the US. The upcoming episode 5 will be released next Tuesday in the UK.
