The Real Housewives of Potomac season 9 premiered on Sunday, October 6 on Bravo. The reality show features the lives of Potomac housewives as they deal with their professional and personal matters.
Gizelle Bryant, Karen Huger, Wendy Osefo, Ashley Darby, and Mia Thornton returned for season 9 of RHOP. They were joined by the new cast members Keiarna Stewart and Stacey Rusch as full-timers. Besides the core housewives, Jassi Rideaux and Jacqueline Blake made their appearances as a friend of the group.
In the premier episode of season 9, Gizelle and Karen had a conversation about the latter's DUI incident. Gizelle told Karen that once she heard that she was in an accident, she couldn't imagine something happening to her friend and it just "shook" her. She added:
"I know you well enough to know that you don't do stupid stuff. So when I saw all the citations, the DUI, DWI.... I'm like, 'This is not Karen'. It was uncharacteristic of the Karen that I know."
The Real Housewives of Potomac star Karen talks about her DUI incident
In The Real Housewives of Potomac season 9 episode 1 conversation, Karen stated that her case was a legal matter and she couldn't wait for the lawsuit to come out. She further implied and assured Gizelle that she shouldn't worry and she was the same friend she knew.
Gizelle wasn't satisfied with the answer and tried to know more about the situation by asking Karen for further details about her charges. Her The Real Housewives of Potomac castmate, however, was defensive and stated that she would discuss the matter when she could.
Reacting to her answer, Gizelle said in her confessional that she did not have any ill intentions and was just looking out for her friend. She added:
"I'm not just being out here shady and messy. No, this is not that. I'm really just like trying to be supportive. I care about her. I love her. I just want to support her."
Karen then opened up about the emotional aspect of the incident and wanted support from her husband Raymond (Ray) Huger.
The Real Housewives of Potomac star shared that they are going through a lot and she doesn't blame her husband for any of it. However, she wishes for him to be emotionally there for her. She blames herself for "not speaking up before now." Karen further added in her confessional that her life problems led to her accident.
"I think everything that I'm going through contributed to my accident... grief, [and] marriage problems. Everything has something to do with where I'm at emotionally right now, which was the state I was in during that incident," Karen said in her confessional.
Karen told Gizelle that she felt emotionally down after seeing her husband dealing with their problems, and dealing with the loss of her parent. Because of all the problems that were coming her way, she did not get to take care of herself. Gizelle then consoled her and told her she looked like someone "who takes care of herself," and the Karen she knew always kept herself together.
The waiter intervened in their conversation with a complimentary doughnut. He stated that Karen was just an "amazing customer", who came to their restaurant all the time and "never had a drink" at the place. Reacting to the waiter's statement, Gizelle said in her confessional:
"This is very planned. OK. Clearly, Karen has told this man to tell me that Karen's never out drinking... ever, ever, ever... She might have paid them off."
The Real Housewives of Potomac season 9 episodes air every Sunday on Bravo and are available for streaming on Peacock, the next day.
