"It was unpleasant" — Love is Blind: UK star Jasmine's mom addresses social media backlash

Love is Blind: UK aired its season finale on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, during which several couples got married. This included Bobby and Jasmine who tied the knot despite the latter's mother's hesitation about the social experiment.

Marisa, Jasmine's mom was unsure about her daughter getting married to someone just after knowing him for weeks and was vocal about it. Moreover, she expressed her concerns about Bobby, including his lack of education, and was uncertain he could provide. In episode 9, she said that it was "difficult" to have a conversation with an "uneducated person."

Her comments didn't sit well with fans who criticized her for her behavior. On August 17, Marisa took to the TikTok app to address the backlash she had received and asked them not to "foster hatred" and remember she was "human."

"I myself felt uncomfortable watching the "uneducated" part back, I am sorry it was unpleasant. Let's move on from that statement. Jasmine was safely raised to be the best of my ability. I guided and protected Jasmine until the age when she was able to defend herself," Marisa added.

In the TikTok video posted last week, Marisa opened up about her daughter finding love on the Netflix social experiment. While she thanked the Love is Blind: UK fans for watching the show, she requested them to not spread hate.

While explaining her behavior towards Bobby, Marisa said she thought she was "being a mother" and added that viewers were "entitled" to have their own opinions about her. While chiming in on calling the Love is Blind: UK cast member "uneducated" she stated that English was not her first language.

"There were words that were said and the meaning in my head were different. We are all individuals with different social and cultural backgrounds. My first language is Tagalog, not English," she mentioned.

As she apologized for her statements, she explained that she raised Jasmine to the "best" of her ability". Marisa said that she guided and "protected" her daughter until she was able to do it herself.

The Love is Blind: UK star's parent further said that as a mother, she was nervous and scared about Jasmine's wedding during the social experiment and just wanted Jasmine to be happy.

"I want the best for my daughter. Again, please remember I am human. We all are. Thank you, Marisa," she concluded.

What happened between Marisa and Bobby on Love is Blind: UK?

Marisa met Jasmine's fiancé for the first time on Love is Blind: UK's episode 9 as the couple invited her over for a meal so she could get to know Bobby better. However, she had her concerns about Bobby's education, finances, future plans, and more.

She told the couple she had "mixed feelings" about their relationship and asked whether they saw being together forever. She further asked about his education and Bobby explained that he struggled to concentrate when he was in school. He added that he didn't attend university and Jasmine told her mother that a lot of people now opted not to pursue education after a point.

"I know, but it's better to be with a person with a good educational background. Sometimes it's very difficult to communicate with an uneducated person. I'm very, very protective. I don't want her to get hurt again," Marisa said.

Despite Marisa's apprehensions about their relationship, Jasmine and Bobby tied the knot in episode 11 of the reality show. The two, along with the rest of the cast, will return to screens for a reunion special set to air on August 26, 2024, at 4 pm ET on Netflix.
