The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras premiered on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Ten players from each era participated in the competition to establish their dominance. However, not every contestant could achieve their target. Many lost track in the whirlwind of calculated politics and vicious gameplay.
Of all the Eras, Era 1 appeared to have the shorter end of the stick. After seven episodes, they were reduced to only two players. Having bid farewell to at least one teammate in each episode, Derrick and Rachel remain the sole representatives of Era 1.
The first elimination sent Mark and Katie packing. Jodi's journey on the show was cut short in the following episode. In episode 4, Aneesa was eliminated. Chris "CT" Tamburello and Brad exited in episodes 5 and 6 respectively. Lastly, Darrel and Tina went home in episode 7.
The Challenge fans took to X to express their views on the current status of Era 1. Many blamed the other Eras for unnecessarily targeting Era 1, while others claimed the show would lose its charm without the original cast members.
"Why are these stupid #TheChallenge40 cast members not picking off era 4? Oh noooo let’s go after era 1! Oh you dumb dumbs ! You don’t wanna run a final w era 4! Keep the OGs in the game! This is pathetic to watch !" a fan wrote.
"Even though we lose Era I next week, they started this show & the challenges they did will always be THE GOAT of the challenges. Jumping off helicopters, cliffs with their hands tied, throwing hatchets with their eyes closed…the damn bull’s balls…" a netizen tweeted.
Many fans of The Challenge were sad to see Era 1 down to two members.
"Era 1 is the best and now they are all gone," a fan commented.
"Sad to see Era 1 being dismantled like this. They are the forefront of the challenges and I hate how they have been attacked. I was hoping Darrell and Tina would’ve came back," a user reacted.
"I’m actually quite sad we lost Tina tonight. My heart breaks for Era 1 being the bottom of the totem pole this entire season. And also, poor f**king Jenny! Kaycee hasn’t gone in once. And Kyland forgetting what Olivia did to him last season??" a person commented.
"I hate to see Era 1 going out like this," another fan wrote.
At the same time, many fans of The Challenge criticized the other Eras for going after Era 1.
"They keep doing era 1 dirty and it’s not sitting right like damn. Y’all leaving eras like era 3 untouched for what?? For bananas and Laurel?? a netizen reacted.
"how tf is any competition gonna be fair when era 1 is down to 2 people ?! so obviously they gonna be out next week," another person tweeted.
The Challenge Season 40: Era 1's elimination order
Eight contestants were eliminated from The Challenge at the end of episode 2. The players who went home from Era 1 were Katie and Mark. Mark lost to Derrick whereas Katie lost to Aneesa in the 'Pole Wrestle' challenge. Although Katie tried to put up a commendable fight against Aneesa by attempting to wear her down, her strategy failed, ending her journey on the show.
Episode 3 saw Jodi's elimination from Era 1. The female cast member went against Averey from Era 3 in a 'Pick It Up' arena game. Despite putting her best foot forward, she failed to overpower Averey, resulting in her eviction.
Aneesa's elimination in episode 4 was a close call. She was deemed the underdog as she went against Jenny in a challenge that required agility. Despite being ahead of her competitor, she eventually lost due to a mistake in the game's closing munites.
Chris "CT" Tamburello from Era 1 was sent packing in episode 5. He lost to Kyland in 'Getting Hammered' where each player had to remove 100 nails from one board and nail 100 more onto another.
Brad was the next contestant to get evicted from Era 1. He competed against Cory in an arena game called 'To the Point.' He could not keep up with Cory, who dominated the challenge with speed and agility. Consequently, Cory crossed the finish line before his opponent, sending Brad home.
Episode 7 bid farewell to two players from Era 1, Darrell and Tina. They went against Kyland and Michele in the 'Boxster-phobia' challenge but failed to win the task, bringing their journey on the show to an end.
After eight eliminations, Rachel and Derrick stand as the only representatives of Era 1.
The Challenge season 40 airs Wednesdays at 8 pm ET on MTV.
