Season 47 of Survivor has finally made it to its end with the finale episode released on December 18. It witnessed the four finalists Sam, Sue, Teeny, and Rachel go against each other to secure the win. Rachel won the Immunity Challenge, saved Sue, and took her to the final three.
Teeny and Sam competed in the Fire Making Challenge, where Teeny lost, making Sam qualify to the final three. These three pled their cases to the eight jury members to secure the votes they needed to win.
Rachel won by a landslide vote count of 7, only 1 went to Sam, and Sue got 0, yet it was Sam's final Tribal Council speech that stayed with the viewers. The crux of his speech consisted of the unfair amount of times he was voted and how he survived against the other finalists when they had the advantage of immunity idols. The way he laid his case and answered jury questions was smart, and fans flocked to X to praise it.
"Rachel absolutely deserves the win based on the game she played but Sam killed that jury. He said all the right things and made a genuine case when he had none," said one fan.
"Sam did an incredible job pleading his case at the final trouble council," said another.
"Rachel may have the wins but Sam has the better explanations about his game. Sam IS KILLING this," added a third.
"Sam kinda went to the Maryanne school of ftc speeches," another wrote.
Some Survivor fans praised Sam's speech but added that it didn't discount Rachel's win.
"Excellent season of #Survivor. Sam ‘won’ the final council/debate, so to speak, but Rachel deserved to win the season, and did. One of the better winners in a while," an X user wrote.
"Rachel's final plea for the jurors' votes. I think Sam did a great job at Final Tribal, but Rachel deserves the win," another user wrote.
"Sam’s speech is compelling. That boy good," commented one.
"I’m so sorry Sam ate that!!!" another wrote.
Sam's speech in the final tribal council on Survivor season 47 finale
While Rachel's Survivor finale speech was equally good, Sam spoke with confidence and heart. He implied that Rachel made it to the finale because she relied on luck and competition. He specified this by saying:
"It was immunity and an idol in the fries that got her to the end of this game."
To this, Rachel said that it was easier for Sam too because other players weren't after him, like they were for her. Sam countered this by stating that he was the one to be voted the most times out of the three final players.
He further added that he went to four total tribals throughout the season and received 10 total votes, which wasn't an easy feat to tread through. Taunting Rachel's immunity wins even more, Sam added:
"Found multiple ways to get to the end without winning immunity necklaces or buying the right item at the auction."
In the end, Sam admitted that his game wasn't perfect but it was the most well-rounded out of the three, and also was "adaptable, dynamic, resilient, and creative". And even though Sam's game was acknowledged to be one that came without much help, Rachel's luck couldn't be discounted because luck and competition wins were a part of the game.
