Sister Wives aired its latest episode on Sunday, October 6, 2024. The segment saw the Brown family preparing for Thanksgiving. However, the occasion seemed different from their previous ones because it was the first Thanksgiving that Kody Brown celebrated with Robyn and their children alone. The change occurred after Kody's breakups with his other wives, Meri, Janelle, and Christine.
In Sunday's episode, Meri revealed she was invited to join Robyn and Kody for the event. However, she declined the offer, explaining she did not want to be a "third wheel" while Robyn and Kody enjoyed their quality time.
At the same time, Kody was not too upset with the change. While speaking before the cameras, the cast member revealed he could not be affectionate with his wife, Robyn, in the presence of his ex, Meri. He held Meri accountable for his lack of chemistry with Robyn. As a result, he welcomed Meri's absence with open arms.
Sister Wives fans took to X to criticize Kody for blaming Meri for his uneventful relationship with Robyn. At the same time, many praised Meri for not attending the celebration.
"Has anyone checked on Kody? I mean did aliens take his brain? Throwing Meri under the bus is such low class," a fan wrote.
"Kody goes out of his way to make Meri feel insignificant. I hope Meri stopped giving that man money when he started this," a netizen tweeted.
Sister Wives fans criticized Kody for holding Meri accountable for not showing affection to Robyn.
"Anytime Kody mentions Meri, it seems like he’s just always so disgusted with her for interfering with him & Robyn’s need to be a “family”," another fan wrote.
"So tired of him blaming everyone for his failures. They need to stop showing him and Robyn, enough already!" a user reacted.
"The lies from him the constant victim card. Get him n Robyn off the screen, stop ruining this stuff for us @TLC like WTAF no one cares what he has to say n all ur doing is supporting his narcissism n abuse," a person commented.
"What in the world? Kody can’t “be like a married couple” if Meri is there for Thanksgiving? My husband and I don’t do “married things” at Thanksgiving dinner either!" a fan commented.
Some Sister Wives fans applauded Meri for standing up for herself and refusing to attend the Thanksgiving celebration.
"This Thanksgiving, I'm grateful for Meri finally being done 3rd wheeling with Robyn and Kody," another person reacted.
"Good for Meri refusing to be a third wheel at Kody & Robyns holiday dinner," one netizen commented.
"I am so glad Meri is putting her needs above other people . Look at all the years she wasted on someone who so casually says he doesn’t love her or want her. She should have left yrs ago when he didn’t want to have another with her. I hope Meri finds happiness," one user wrote.
Sister Wives star Meri said she was not a part of Kody and Robyn's family
In the latest episode, How the Might Have Fallen, Kody and Robyn prepared for Thanksgiving with their children. Unlike the previous years, Kody celebrated the occasion with Robyn and their kids alone, instead of celebrating with all his wives and children under one roof. Although he missed seeing the house packed with people, he was not against the idea of a quieter event.
He revealed that in the presence of his first wife Meri, he could not be affectionate towards his wife, Robyn. As a result, when Meri refused to join them for the Thanksgiving dinner, Kody was happy with it.
"We weren't acting like a married couple with Meri in our presence. That's mostly on Robyn. To be fair, that's because Robyn is very sensitive to other people. She wants to be very careful about their feelings," Kody said.
The Sister Wives star continued:
"So when Meri's there with us at Thanksgiving, I'm not close with Meri. And now, I'm no longer close with Robyn because Meri's present and Robyn wants to be sensitive to Meri."
Meri shared a similar sentiment, saying that Kody felt "awkward" in her presence because it restricted him from showing affection and adoration to Robyn. The Sister Wives star added that given their disturbed relationship status it would only be "weird" if she was present at the celebration.
Meri confessed that she was not even a "member of the family." Consequently, she claimed that her attendance would only complicate the situation. However, she did not attend the dinner celebration mainly because she did not want to be a "third wheel at Robyn and Kody's house."
Meanwhile, Kody mentioned that the smaller gathering felt "safe" since everyone was in a "state of respect with each other," a quality lacking in the other family members. Nonetheless, the Sister Wives star missed being with his children and hoped he could mend his relationship with them in the future.
Sister Wives airs every Sunday at 10 pm ET only on TLC.
