Sister Wives season 19 premiered on Sunday, September 15, 2024. The new season featured the complicated relationships of the Brown family, including those between Kody Brown and his three former wives, Janelle, Christine, and Meri.

The series started on a somber note, with a tribute to the late Garrison Brown, who passed away on March 5, 2024. Garrison was the son of Janelle and Kody and died by suicide at the age of 25.

Ahead of recapping the previous season, the network paid tribute to the late cast member and said he was "greatly loved" and would be "deeply missed." Fans of the show were divided by the tribute. While some felt it was sweet, others felt it was "weird." One person wrote on X:

"Okay, this is weird. Why wouldn't they pickup from where they left off after Christine's wedding? This is a money grab. I would think they wouldn't want to deal with Garrison's suicide. This show should have just ended. Its run its course."
"It’s genuinely horrifying. And i know some footage was shot before his passing, but still. Right now they’re showing Mykelti’s twins’ baby shower and Mykelti has gone on record saying Robyn is no longer in her life BECAUSE of what happened at Garrison’s funeral," a fan commented.
"Knowing what happens with Garrison makes me so much angrier at Kody. I know it's not my place, but there it is," a tweet read.

Some Sister Wives season 19 fans were touched by the tribute:

"That’s so sad about their son garrison," a person wrote.
"Please please please don’t show a lot of Garrison. My heart can’t take it," a fan commented.
"This season of #SisterWives began filming in late 2022. On March 5, 2024, Kody and Janelle's son Garrison passed away. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed," a tweet read.

Sister Wives season 19 fans further said:

"No #SisterWives - do NOT play with Garrison’s death like that. He killed himself. Call it what it is. Only reason you don’t is because you know you are partially responsible," a person wrote.
Definitely think the Garrison acknowledgement was rushed and abrupt...like 'yeah he passed but...previously on!' The f*ck?!" a fan commented.

"Our loss will leave such a big hole in our lives" — Sister Wives star Kody Brown on son's death

Sister Wives season 19 premiered this Sunday on TLC and included a tribute to Garrison Brown, who passed away earlier this year. The tribute read that the current season of the TLC show began filming in late 2022 and that in March 2024, Kody and Jenelle Brown's son, Garrison passed away.

"He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed," the tribute read.

Kody had shared an Instagram post on March 6, 2024, informing the public about the same. At the time, he wrote that he and Janelle were "deeply saddened" by the loss of their son, Robert Garrison Brown. Remembering Garrison, the Sister Wives season 19 star wrote that his son was "a bright spot" in everyone's lives.

"He was a bright spot in the lives of all who knew him. Our loss will leave such a big hole in our lives, that it takes our breath away. We ask that you please respect our privacy and join us in honoring his memory," Kody captioned the Instagram post.

Other members of the TLC show, including Christine Brown, had taken to social media to grieve the loss in March 2024. Christine recalled the late family member's relationship with her daughter, Truely, and said that he was a "wonderful, caring brother."

Sister Wives season 19 fans reacted to the tribute and were divided in their opinion. While some praised the network for acknowledging the loss, others felt they were trying to make money from Garrison's passing.

Sister Wives season 19 will air episode 2 on September 22, 2024 on TLC.
