Nikki Garcia is parting ways with her former Dancing with the Stars pro husband, Artem Chigvintsev, two weeks after he was arrested for domestic violence.
According to a report by People, the TV personality and ex-professional wrestler officially filed for divorce in Napa Valley, California on Wednesday, September 11. The news comes after Garcia stopped wearing her wedding ring. She was photographed without the accessory on two separate occasions.
She was seen without her wedding ring while catching a private flight on August 31. It was two days after news broke that Artem Chigvintsev was arrested.
Nikki Garcia also co-hosted Netflix's Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef on September 2. It was her first public appearance since her husband's arrest, and she wasn't wearing her emerald engagement ring and wedding band at that time as well. Dressed in all red, Garcia addressed the crowd at the Netflix event, saying, "I'm so happy to be here."
Nikki Garcia's husband was charged with felony corporal injury, weeks before she filed for divorce
Nikki Garcia and Artem Chigvintsev tied the knot in Paris in 2022. In celebration of their second wedding anniversary, the former DWTS pro shared snaps of their wedding on his Instagram on August 27, with the caption saying:
"Happy anniversary my love, can't see my life without you. You are my everything."
Chigvintsev was arrested in Napa Valley two days later on a charge of "corporal injury to a spouse." Per the arrest documents, Garcia wasn't named, but the 911 call reporting about the incident before the arrest allegedly revealed her identity.
The Dancing with the Stars pro reportedly called 911 asking for medical assistance after "his wife" allegedly threw shoes at him, according to E! News in a report published on September 12.
He reportedly told the dispatcher that he argued with his wife and that there was a child on the scene. However, he allegedly called off the paramedics, saying that their assistance was no longer needed minutes later. Cops still arrived at their house, and while he made the 911 call, the police "felt comfortable arresting him on felony domestic violence charges."
The Napa County Sheriff's Department's Public Information Officer, Henry Wofford, shared details on why he was arrested. He explained that it means that a credible eyewitness has seen visible injuries on the victim when a person is charged with "felony domestic violence,"
Meanwhile, Wofford also noted that the victim had requested privacy and asked to keep her identity confidential. As for Chigvintsev, he was later released from jail after paying a $25,000 bail on the afternoon of August 29.
Nikki Garcia has remained silent on her family matters during her appearance at the live Netflix event.
