Sky Elements dedicated their America's Got Talent Semifinals act to a teammate's late daughter
Sky Elements' previous performances induced laughter as they used drones to create comical characters, caricatures, and intricate scenes in the night sky. However, coming into the Semifinals, they knew they had to stand out and present a story that the judges and the audience would remember.
Sky Elements' team member Preston Ward revealed that he wanted to pay tribute to his late daughter, Briley Rose, using their Semifinals performance. While speaking to the cameras before their act, he said:
"The moment we made it through, I knew exactly what we needed to do for our semifinal performance, and that is to tell the story of Briley Rose, my daughter."
The America's Got Talent contestant stated that he steered all his attention to drone shows after losing his daughter in 2020. His first encounter with a drone was in December, shortly after his daughter passed away. He then turned his back on his law career to pursue a journey with Sky Elements. Another team member and Preston's friend said:
"We have poured our whole souls into this performance. This is going to be the best show we have ever put on."
He added that Pasadena, known as the "city of roses," was a fitting place to tell the story of Briley Rose. They paired their performance with Lily Meola's song Butterfly, showcasing Briley's figure transforming into a butterfly. Soon, it changed into a rose and finally into a phoenix.
Sky Elements' act left the America's Got Talent judges in tears. Howie, Sofia, and Heidi praised their story-telling skills, while Simon struggled to express his emotions.
America's Got Talent season 19 will return with the Finals on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 8 pm ET, only on NBC.
