The Challenge Season 40 aired Part 1 of its reunion special, hosted by Maria Menounos, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, on MTV. The Battle of the Eras cast returned to screens and they discussed events of the latest season and several fights that made it to the final cut.
One such feud that took center stage was Laurel Stucky and Cara Maria Sorbello's long-running feud. In Season 40, the two got into an argument which saw the latter walk away in tears after Cara and Michele spoke to Laurel about her ill behavior towards the other contestants.
During the reunion special, the host asked the two cast members about the argument and asked both of them to say their "piece" and asked Cara Maria why she got involved in Laurel and Michele's argument. The cast member explained that she and Michele were already having an argument and Laurel came and asked them what they were talking about.
Fans of the reality show commented on the two recounting their feud and were unhappy with it. One person wrote on X:
"That was really tame. I expected more."
"A lot more civil than what I expected. As a fan, ready for this storyline to be buried and hope they both had their closure and can move on," a fan commented.
"Never have them on the same season ever. For their sake and for our sake. Literally no one cares about their “drama”, their “sisterhood” or whatever you want to call it," a tweet read.
Some fans criticized Laurel Stucky's behavior towards Cara Maria during The Challenge Season 40:
"Laurel is a bully though. Cara and Michele can both be annoying but Laurel is a beast of a person. That's it. The end," a person wrote.
"Laurel always started with Cara! Which is why they were rivals in the first place. I think she hates that she can’t bully Cara anymore. They made up in rivals 1 and then in Free Agents she turned on Cara! The friendship ended because of laurel," a fan commented.
"Laurel is one of those a**holes. That you just hope you get to see her get what's coming to her. Laurel is in some serious need of a karma slap upside her spoiled head," a tweet read.
Fans of The Challenge Battle of the Eras further said:
"Cara and laurel fighting isn't the issue. It's always how low laurel goes. It's disgusting. Laurel will never own up to going low. Going low to big easy, low to Cara this season, low on Darrell for his marriage but yup it's all cara's experience," a person wrote.
"It was kinda chilling how quiet everyone was when Laurel and Cara’s segment happened," a fan commented.
"There's certain places you don't go" — Cara Maria chimes in on her and Laurel Stucky's argument during The Challenge reunion Part 1
During The Challenge Season 40's reunion part 1, Maria Menounos asked Laurel and Cara Maria about their argument. Cara Maria clarified that she and Michele were already talking about Laurel's behavior towards the other cast members when Laurel asked them what they were talking about.
She said Laurel kind of "engaged" them and Cara told her. Laurel said she felt "a lot" got placed on her by Cara that she didn't necessarily deserve. Johnny Bananas asked The Challenge stars if they felt they both played a role in their "rage fights" or if either of them was to be blamed.
"We both get under each other's skin so it doesn't matter what you do or how you poke the bear or whatever, there's certain places you don't go," Cara said.
She further told The Challenge Season 40 female cast member that she had gone "so low" to people. Laurel said Cara Maria's statements were a reflection of her past experiences and wished her on-screen rival "love and peace and healing."
Fans of the MTV reality show commented on their conversation online and were disappointed with how "tame" it was.
