Love After Lockup season 5 released a new episode on October 18, 2024. Episode 43 was part of the Life After Lockup segment which documented a larger picture of a felon's life after their release from prison, compared to Love After Lockup that focused mainly on their relationships.
In episode 43 titled Ring & Run!, Louie visited a jewelry store to buy Melissa a ring. After a lot of back and forth, he decided to buy a $25k ring for her which he got at a discounted price of $18500. In a confessional, Louie said his bank account took a major hit because he spent a little over what he had expected.
Fans of Love After Lockup flocked to X to criticize Louie for buying a ring that was out of his budget. Some of them said he should've saved the money, while others said it was too early to ask Melissa to get married.

"That jewelry should be selling used cars. He said, "because you're trying to do the right thing". Spending thousands of dollars on a ring that Melissa probably won't be satisfied with is another Louie poor decision," one fan said.
"Louie needs to save his money. SMH," another fan wrote.

Some Love After Lockup fans called him out for buying the ring because they thought he was proposing too soon after he got out of prison. Others thought Melissa didn't deserve a ring that expensive.

Louie's decision to buy a ring for Melissa on Love After Lockup season 5 episode 43
When Louie went to buy the ring for Melissa on Love After Lockup, he was with his friends. He told them he was second-guessing his decision to buy the ring for Melissa because the jeweler said it was $25k and he was looking for something under 12k. His friends encouraged him and said he was doing it once in his life so he shouldn't worry about the money.
The jewelers stated they wanted to "help him out" because he wanted to do the right thing. They offered him the ring for $18.5 because they knew his felon status and wanted to raise a helping hand. Louie said it was a 2-carat diamond ring and thought it would look good on Melissa.
After he brought the ring, Louie said in a Love After Lockup confessional that he spent everything that he had ever saved and was 6.5k dollars over budget. He saw it as a huge accomplishment and something to be cherished for life. He left the store in the hopes that Melissa would like it.
